oil Filters
 

Ok, i'm having a brain fart.
My Question is this::
Is it possible to change a 6.0L oil filter system out to a van system but, add say, an amsoil bypass sytem instead of the ford oil filter??
I know some one has had to think of this before now.

Why not just add the amsoil bypass system to your truck as it is? What advantage would you have for going to the van setup?

Are you asking if you can use JUST the amosil bypass as the only filtration? That would NEVER work. You would destroy the engine most likely.

Most of us 6.0 owners would not do that.....

A bypass filter is not designed for full flow, neither is a regular filter so that is why they all have a bypass built in to the system. The van system would be a pain in the butt, There is a difference in the top part of oil cooler to, not just the filter housing part and the top of the oil cooler is solid where the anti-drainback valve is on the truck model. Now something I am working on is using the van oil cooler top and then tig welding 12AN fittings onto a small section of the original tube that is bent and designed to go into the housing . Then I can run #12 An stainless braided hose to front and get a AFCO oil cooler and remote oil-filter mount set up on it. The fun part is to take anold stock oil cooler and cut it so just the flat plate remains then tig weld a aluminum tube with 90deg. bends on each end from hole to hole on both the oil and coolant sides. I could build my whole Bullet proof setup for around $500, alot of work though. Save yourself alot of troubl and buy the Amsoil setup with he billet oil cap and billet oil fill cap and be done with it, a bypass system helps prolong the life of the injectors too.

Ok, let me define my project, replace oil cooler and assorted hardware with 6.0L van hardware. The two tubes that come off the oil cooler and go down to the where the oil filter should be mounted. Just leave off the factory oil filter and get an amsoil bypass system (with full flow and bypass) Just like the one for the 7.3L PSD.s Then you could mount the filters on the frame and it would be very easy to change filters or take a sample. I'm looking into doing this. as I already have a system like this on my 02 7.3L with 300,000 miles. Works great. :jump:

To me it'd be easier to change the stock oil filter where it sits on top of the motor than crawl under the truck and change a filter down there, but maybe you have a really really big lift kit?

I guess in theory it would work, but why wouldn't you just stick with the stock van filter, and then add the bypass? I guess I just don't see the point, you could just add a bypass to your current setup and be light years ahead and not have to spend a fortune to do it. :humm:

You will also have to get the fuel lines for the van motor, as the fuel housing is different how the lines hook up because of the way it sits.
