06 powerstroke killed battery and now no start
 
First a little background, this is my brothers 2006 F-250 with 83k on the clock (no mods). It see's use with his landscaping company so hauling, towing etc. The problem started when he accidentally left the key on with some accessories running which nearly killed the battery. when he tried to start the truck it was running "like crap" so he shut it off and left it. When I came to look at it the next morning it wouldn't turn over so I replaced the primary battery and had the secondary (less than a year old) load tested which said it was fine. After putting the batteries in I was able to start the truck but something was definitely up, no power at all even when the turbo spooled up the truck would only crawl along. After having it towed back to our shop it wouldn't start at all though it turns over fine so I started researching potential problems. Keep in mind that I only have basic experience and none of it with large diesels like this, here's what I've checked so far:

The FICM tested at 48v while at rest and cranking, I can't start the truck so I'm not sure if it drops or not

Codes pulled (with actron cp9125 pretty basic) were injector circuit low on all cylinders.

I drained the main filter (some water) and replaced both filters, there is fuel coming into the top bowl while cranking so it seems the pump is fine.

If I understand correctly the test for low pressure oil is to hold down the spring in the bottom of the filter can and crank the engine, when I did that I had plenty of oil flow into the can.

Alot of these tests were done before it was revealed to me that this only started AFTER the battery was killed. Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to DB, if that is Gaithersburg MD I am only 10 min from you.
Kind of sounds like you killed the FICM, if you are getting codes for all injectors it is kind of a safe bet, if you need one to try out I hve a spare on the shelf we could use to test it out, going to be going to the transfer station on Shadygrove this afternoon.

Thanks for the welcome, I was just at the transfer station myself dumping oil about an hour ago, small world! As far as the FICM goes, is it still possible for it to be bad when it tests 48v at on and crank? I can run the test again tomorrow morning to make sure our tinkering all this week hasn't changed anything. If we are still scratching our heads by Monday I would definitely want to test the truck with your FICM and buy you lunch or a bear for your troubles. Thanks again.

PS. I went ahead and changed the other battery today just to be safe since I know they should be done in pairs.

Good call on the other new battery, they should always be changed in pairs, bad things can happen if they aren't. I will send you a pivate message, you might not be able to respond untill you have enough posts though.

I retested the FICM this morning and it's still 48v solid during on and cranking, is there still a real possibility it could be this?

I have at least two FICM's sitting on my bench that read 48+V at all conditions, but will barely let the truck idle. The entire truck shakes and sounds like it's running on 4 cylinders with these FICM's on. One of them is a 50/50 chance the truck will even start. Though, not common, it's not unheard of.

It's odd it happened when the batteries were drained.

Bob will get you squared away I'm sure. I can't believe it's not starting now. That's really weird. Could just be a fluke it happened when the battery died, but could be a high pressure oil leak too.

That code? What the heck is that? Can you try reading it with something else, that code isn't even anything I recognize.

The codes pulled were po261, 264 etc. all the way to 282, injector circuit low, one for each cylinder. The only other thing I could think of was the high pressure oil system but that would be one hell of a coincidence. Is there an easy way to check it with my limited tools/experience?

Well we had the truck towed to the shop this morning although I would have rather tried the swap first. That was a good read though and it makes me wonder if something they did while originally trying to jumpstart it could have blown the logic fuse. Thanks for all the help so far from both of you and I will definitely keep you updated.
