egr delete worth it?
egr delete worth it? my dad just bought a 07 6.0 im a 7.3 guy and i dont know much about 6.0s my buddy told me to put a egr delete in it thanks

It is a mandatory thing IMO.

It certainly wont hurt anything. I would also check the status of the oil cooler and determine if that needs rebuilding or not as well, since it's all in the same area. Add a coolant filter to it too.

just curious what does it do?

In reality, it could save you a couple thousand dollars in repair bills.
The EGR cooler was "under" designed for this aplication, there is not enough coolant surface area to efficiently cool the exhaust gasses that are to be reintraduced into the intake to be "reburnt" for emmisions reasons. Coolant first flows through the oil cooler and it then passes through the EGR cooler and then back into the engine. What happens most commonly is the oil cooler will clogg on the coolant side then there is even less coolant to flow through the egr cooler and when the exhaust gas temps are upwards of 1000 degrees flowing through the cooler it can steam the coolant and cause the cooler to rupture and leak coolant int the intake manifold wich causes coolant loss and can even hydrolock the motor and if it hydrolocks and you try to start it it can snap a connecting rod. A clogged oil cooler can affect the EGR cooler and if the coolant steams in the egr cooler it can also damage the cylinder head gaskets because of the temps involved, to have a dealer do headgaskets on one of these trucks is going to cost around $5k. An EGR delete/ really should be called EGR cooler delete/ takes the coolant straight from the oil cooler to the intake manifold and the original EGR cooler is removed, and for late/after 9/22/03 04 trucks they replace the uppipe to Y pipe because it has a nasty "scoop" in the pipe that really restricts flow of the exhaust. You will see better mileage, quicker turbo spool up, cooler EGTs, cleaner intake, an engine that will live much longer. There are only 2 things I will tell people to buy/ I hate telling people how to spend their money/ and they are.. 1. EGR delete 2. Coolant filter, helps to keep the oil cooler from clogging. Hope this helps |
