Swapped out the PCM and wire harness...

Took about 2 hours but I cleaned up the donor harness and deleted some of the crap we did not need. So nice to not have the dumb GPCM...

Now the Excursion has an NVK5 PCM and a Pick up wire harness. Checked the GPR and it was working great, stayed on for 60 seconds the first key cycle.

Ok.....I am interested...how about some "dumbed down" instructions for the less informed ?......what all did you get from the donor ?

You will need a PCM that matches your family, so a 99.5 to 2001 Excursion should use a NVK or PMT PCM.

You will need a complete pickup top of motor harness, from the 52pin connector on.

Remove the wire harness from the top of the motor, from the starter solenoid to the connector. Then install the pickup harness in reverse order. If you have deleted the wastegate, intake air heater or EBPV then now is a great time to delete these plugs.

Then remove the PCM and replace with the pickup PCM.

The only thing I have left to do now is delete the PATS system as I dont believe it will work now anyway with the NVK PCM.

Its working great right now in her truck. I had replaced the GPCM 5 or 6 times over the years at $150 bucks or more. Now for less then $200 I have a functioning glow plug system that can be repaired for under $30 bucks (New GPR-109 from napa)

Also, you will need a GPR-109 for the relay.

Interesting little development...

I get a SES light now because the wastegate, AIH delete and EBP plugs are gone... Strange that I dont get the hard SES light on my truck with the same things being gone.

Is this something to do with the NVK PCM vrs my PMT PCM?

I guess if I have to I will dig the wires out and throw some resistors in the harness but I would rather just have them be gone.

Did you replace any of the wiring behind the firewall? dash side I mean.

No. No need to, its only the PCM and wire harness that is different.

i just did the same thing on my 2003 to get rid of the gpcm also. and i swapped the pcm to an nvk5 also. my problem is my tach doesnt work, and my alertnator isnt charging ( i replaced the alternator today to make sure it wasnt bad.) and i have a check engine light but no codes lol. the truck starts and drives great and runs smooth. so i was wondering if you ran into the same problems as me when you did your swap? any help would be great. im using a 2000 top of the engine harness.

I had a similar problem it was a corroded wire end find the specs or wiring diagram and check every connection
