6.9l diesel leaking fuel?

hey guys i have a 1984 6.9l diesel thats having a little problem. I believe that the source of the leak is fuel related but im not sure. to start this off, its been starting really rough for the past month it will start and then about 3 seconds later it will die. when it chokes itself out you have to open the hood and prime the motor again and then it takes forever to finally fire again like there is no fuel getting to it. if you start it and hold your foot on the gas it will power through it although it surges and shakes like an old racehorse. then thismorning all hell broke loose and something came cascading down from where the tranny bellhousing is located. im not exactly if in fact it is diesel or if those two problems are connected but i dont want to drive it untill i know im not damaging it in any way. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

upon a second look it seems like the source of the leak is in fact the fuel line coming from the gas tank. its a hard line that connects to a soft rubber hose near the air filter. it looks like its leaking where its clamped. any advice on if the problems are connected would still be of great help. Thanks

thats your return lines. buy a complete return line kit and replace all the rubber lines, orings, and caps.

awesome. its actually cracked at a metal "T" where three lines connect. But im still not sure why its stavring for fuel when you first start it. return lines wouldnt have anything to do with that would they?

yep. ANY fuel leak, feed or return side will allow fuel to bleed back into the tank. your fuel system is a closed loop.

thanks, this really helps. when you learn something and get the problem fixed i call that a good day.
