2wd to 4wd

Found a 1991 F350 cc 2wd dually 7.3 5spd that I'm thinking of picking up
I also have a 1992 f150 4x4 gas truck that has been over come by rust, but has a great drive train.
has anyone ever attempted to convert from 2wd to 4wd?
Any frame mods that have to be done or is it a simple suspension swap and thats it
the gas truck I have is 5 spd also,will the trans and transfer case interchange from the gas motor to the diesel, or can i just change the tailstock and put the transfer case on the end?

Any help would be awesome.
thanks in advance.

Also, how does the 7.3 non turbo stand up compared to a 1st gen 5.9 cummins turbo for pulling and all around powerwise?

The half ton TTB will fit in place of the TIB (2wd front), But will not have the strength of the proper (Dana 60) axle.
The M5OD in the half ton will not fit to replace the ZF5 in the 1 ton, your best bet there would be a divorced transfer case.
Also, you're going to have two different sets of rims, or do one of two things to run the proper front rim;
Downgrade to chevy spindles and hubs, and run spacers.
Or run adapter/spacers and keep the ford 1/2 ton spindles and hubs.

Depends on your elevation, in the mountains it will be an anemic pig, but will pull anything, at reduced speeds.
