Cavitation or misinstalled Head Gasket?
I,m new here. Does any one know how to tell if a head gasket was put in wrong or if it is cavitation damage? Let me tell the story: oil in water then water in oil, so I pulled the heads & found out 1 was cracked. replced it with reconditioned one & reconditioned & replaced the other 1 Truck fired up & ran fine even up to op temperature. The next day I had water in the oil so i drained it & when i put water back in the radiator it came out of th oil drain on oil pan. Pulled both plugs for sensing units & top port shows no water, but bottom port has water. Is there a further check for cavitation damage or how can I pinpoint my problem w/o pulling the heads back off. By the way, it's a 6.9 w/ about 280000 mi. on it. Please let me know if anyone has any solutions.

Re o-ringed it when I did the heads. Had it pressure checked at radiator shop & it was ok. Also when I found water leaking thru the drain hole in oil pan I had the oil filter off & noticed no water leaking there.

did you check the cylinder walls for cracks or damage when you had the heads off? you could rotate the motor to see the entire stroke of the wall surface....

cylinder walls looked ok when I had the heads off, but I did think that the cracked head was my issue

might have rolled a o-ring on oil cooler..... but sounds like bad head or still yet a cylinder.. some water should come out of the exhaust if its a head..... my exp. .... post more let us know...
