First have you ever changed you overflow caps and orings on the injectors? Also check your selector, sometimes they get stuck and suck air. How much fuel is in your tanks?

muddyold7.3 02-16-2012 05:26 PM

o rings and overflows are good i got prolly five gallons of fuel, what selector ?

Oklahoma diesel 02-16-2012 09:36 PM

Your fuel selector valve, it's under your seat. What's the fuel gauge show on the dash. On my dads 92 at 1/4 tank it's empty.

farmerdude 02-16-2012 09:53 PM

sounds like you've got a pin hole in the supply line, in between the pick-up in the tank and the mech. fuel pump. If it was after the pump you would be able to see fuel squirting out. So i would start there. Also like OKdiesel said the tank switch valve is a possible. I had one that stuck in between tanks, and it would suck air.
:humm:

muddyold7.3 02-17-2012 04:10 PM

yea well my mechanic said its for some reason that my motors not burnin fuel right it has somethin to do with the glow plugs?

Oklahoma diesel 02-18-2012 01:45 PM

I've never heard of that, if your glow plugs are bad it will be hard to start, after that it's self sustaining. Plus the glow plug and fuel are 2 different things.

muddyold7.3 02-19-2012 01:15 PM

idk i fear its my injection pump $$$

Oklahoma diesel 02-19-2012 02:12 PM

Only about 650

muddyold7.3 02-21-2012 04:39 PM

yea thats alotta money and i hope it will fix my problems

also i got another question if i put a new injection pump on my truck ,i do have a turbo kit but my mechanic took it off to do a motor swap im going to put it back on thou can i get the turbo pump and run it naturally aspirated till i put my turbo back on

Oklahoma diesel 02-21-2012 06:25 PM

Same pump, the only diff is the turbo pump is turned up a little, and a little bigger injectors

muddyold7.3 02-21-2012 06:33 PM

should i go with the turbo pump then since im spendin 600 bucks

Oklahoma diesel 02-21-2012 06:45 PM

When you take it to the rebuilder, they should ask you if it was turbo or not, some will ask you if you want to turn it up. I strongly suggest a pyro first, I can get my 6.9 to 1k and it's just turned one flat

muddyold7.3 02-24-2012 02:39 PM

gotcha i got a pyro and i turned mine up 2flats when i put the turbo on and it didnt even get to 1000, is it difficult to install these pumps?

4x4manonbroke 03-04-2012 05:43 PM

I replaced my fuel lines and went right past the tank switch.... run from tank to lift pump and then line from mechanical pump to Injection pump......... solved my entire issue.... then i replace the fuel lines from the front tank up to the bed where I know have a 70 Gallon side mount tank from a box truck......plumed it all into the stock tank switch.... let me know how this all works out....:humm:

muddyold7.3 03-08-2012 06:08 PM

where did you get all your parts? your saying that you replaced all the lines from the tanks up? how hard was it

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

my mechanic says its an electrical problem im thinkin maybe something shorting out somewhere any ideas?

Oklahoma diesel 03-08-2012 06:41 PM

The only electronic part is the switch, if you run a fuel line from a gas can to your ip, if it's good it will pick up fuel. Try this and see if it will run

muddyold7.3 03-09-2012 12:18 PM

well the problem is it runs alright until you start going down the road then it shakes violently and cuts off

Oklahoma diesel 03-09-2012 03:19 PM

How long will it idle? If you rev it up does it do the violent shaking, how far down the road can you go

rapidroy5858 03-23-2012 06:36 PM

I'm having same basic issue... Thinking of by passing tank selector valve altogether (only have the main tank in the truck)and running rubber from just before tsv on tank side to new lift pump
I installed, one question is do i need to change anything with the return line when i do this? The fuel water seperator has already been bypassed. Also considering changing over to an electric pump back by the fuel tank... Any thoughts?

muddyold7.3 03-24-2012 07:14 PM

mine runs fine at idle but dies under load

muddyold7.3 04-21-2012 08:58 AM

stll having same issue i replaced the ip and she still dies under load idk what else to do i guess try the tsv

muddyold7.3 05-02-2012 07:44 PM

Replaced the tank selector valve I'm out of ideas please help

Oklahoma diesel 05-02-2012 08:25 PM

Have you installed clear fuel lines from the pump to the filter? Look at the fuel pump it has a weep hole, see if it's leaking.

muddyold7.3 05-05-2012 09:18 PM

i have narrowed it down it's between the valve and the pickup

powerstroke312 05-06-2012 02:02 PM

im having the same exact problem with my 92 runs and idles for days but dies when u drive it. im stumped. new orings and rubber lines and the return caps. any ideas? if one injecvtor leaks will it cause it to die or miss?

muddyold7.3 05-06-2012 03:22 PM

best advice i have is buy a electric fuel pump from the auto parts store and work your way down the truck conecting it in different places when you connect it hit the schrader valve on the fuel filter and check for air you can narrow it down very easy that way my air leak was the fuel pickup somewhere its sucking air so im gonna pressure test it and find out

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

when you connect the electric pump you need to pull fuel from an alternate source other than the tank
