fuel problems

ok so the truck is a 1984 f250 6,9 non turbo. and the lift pump went bad so i put a new one in and nothing i put my finger over the pickup hole at the pump while some one cranked it and it had badly any vacuum very little. what could be wrong?

DieselCrawler 01-29-2012 07:38 PM

new fuel pump is junk. let me take a guess and say the new pump was made by AIRTEX?

2006nytro 01-30-2012 12:28 AM

ya I'm pretty sure it was an airtex.. came in a red and black box? and is it better to just do e fuel and if so what do i need to do so? mainly what pump? cheep is good ill do all the lines and that myself i just need to know what pump or what gpm pump to use?

alot of guys run holley red pumps. they must be mounted back at the tank area as they push fuel better than pull.

remove the factory lift pump and get a BBC fuel pump block off plate from advanced auto or autozone. then plumb in the electric one.

what PSI does E-Pump have to bee ? I know it has be on the low side but what the max it can be i was thinking about added one

DieselCrawler 01-31-2012 07:35 PM

the holly reds are perfect. 7 psi is what is wanted, but average is 5-7 psi. DONT get the el cheapo pumps from the parts stores. if you guys what the best pump you can get and never need to replace, pm me. i will tell ya where to go.

you should take DieselCrawlers advise .... he is verry wise about these IDI trucks... I'm following him when it comes to these trucks and I have 20 + yrs working in the auto industry as a tech, 3+ in the heavy truck industry and now 6+ months working on busses.... he knows what he is talking about....... the pump you have linked is a POS... dont buy it... spend a lil more now or bang you head later..ur choice...:ouch:

I get the pierce from napa and I'm suspecting the one I just put on is junk. Is pierce a decent pump? I usually trust napa parts over auto zone or anyother store. If not where can I find a good pump.

go to oriley, or napa they sell holly fuel pumps .... just have to ask... or ask DieselCrawler where he gets them... might try Northern Auto Parts: Home.... Northern Auto Parts
