Water/Methanol injection for 7.3 idi not turbo?
What gains could one expect with water/methanol injecting a naturally aspirated 7.3 idi?
Any and all experiences appreciated. |
not to much, maybe 5-10 hp. and thats a big maybe.
|
What about a turboed one with a Banks cold air intake?
|
Again not much... Water injection should be used to cool egt's. If your looking for HP gains, then look elsewhere.
|
K. Thx.

I know its probably too late to do any good, but Banks has the Water-Methanol injection for the old IDI's and it gains you between 75-175hp. So 5-10hp I call BS. But it is a new system.
This is with all due respect to the Diesel Bomber up there. Probably at the time there wasn't much, but the new diesel technology has come a long way even since 2011. |

They did an article on this in Diesel Power magazine on a turbo 6.9 and picked up about 30hp/50ft-lbs running a 50/50 mix.

There's also a video displaying how the banks system works compared to others, and it maintains steady through the RPM ranges too, was a good watch :tu:

Sounds about right

I would run Water/meth in mine on freeway and towing ... bet it does help quite abit .... had it on a 350 chevy with a turbo and man when that hit ... it was a towing monster :c:
|
Water/meth injection was an option on the 1962 Oldsmobile Jetfire. They called it turbo rocket fluid. The motor was turbo charged as well. Check it out on youtube.

Gotta love the 1960's here's a link, great commercial.

Water/Meth on idi 7.3
Thanks to all who had input and knowledge.
I still have the truck and will be looking into it as soon as upgrades are made to my 5.9 cummins in the 98.5 ram 2500 sport. Just lost the lift pump. Did a fuel filter change and found my vp44 has been pulling the fuel for 1.5 weeks now. The lift pump after filter change couldn't even draw fuel to prime or bleed to the vp44. |
