1989 antifreeze leaking in engine

i notice my truck was losing antifreeze a few weeks ago and it started locking up not cus it got hot but the antifreeze was running in to the cylinders my unlce told me it was prolly just the head gasket so i removed the injectors and turned engine over to see what side i needed to replace and antifreeze blew out the driver side so i got the head checked and everythings fine and i put gasket and injector seals in and everything but i started running it and its still doing it. it could be the other side idk cus no antifreeze blew out when i turned it over but is there anything else it could be before i start tearing the other side apart?

If one goes, do em both at the same time.

The head gasket leaks just enough for it to suck in coolant when the cylinders go on the intake stroke.

so if i take injectors back out and turn the engine over and it shoots antifreeze out passenger side its the gasket? but if it shoots it out the driver side what could it be since i replace everything?

You mentioned you only did the drivers side. Is it still locking the engine up?

Your hydro locking your engine, have you checked you oil to make sure you dont have any antifreeze in you oil if you do it can be sleaves. Thats if it doesntblow out the passenger side.

sounds like you might have a cavitation problem my friend...... head gaskets are a possibility and all but you need to reall look at the upper cylinder walls to make sure there are no pin holes in your cyl. walls ...... this is why diesels need nitrates in the cooling system....... now is way too late if you find holes that is whay cavitaion will do it eats through the cyl. walls and boom .... ur done ... i will hope and pray for the best for ya ...:humm:

You can do an inframe if you have a cavitation in you cylinder. pull the pan and head and push the sleeve and piston out together and replace thos if its just one. Thats why I love diesels. Well there some with parabores.

you got alot to learn my friend. almost every light duty diesel in pickup trucks are NOT removable sleeves.

sorry to say bud, but if you still have coolant in the engine on the same cyl, then i am saying you have worms. block worms that is. only thing that can be done is pull the motor and either replace it or send the block out to be milled and a sleeve installed.

RanchhandTCR 09-13-2011 07:51 PM

Whate ever the case sleeve or no sleeve if you have a cavitation in the cylinder then its gonna need a rebuild, and to Diesel Crawler I do most of my work with tractors, so they are sleeved, so I dont have alot to learn. A cummins is a cummins fiqured they were all sleeved guess Im wrong. Take care.

DieselCrawler 09-14-2011 04:51 AM

but we are not working on a cummins, go back up to your area dodge boy.
