7.3 idi injector leak
my rear passenger side injector is leaking from where it monts into the head i can see bubbles and fuel coming out around the bace of the injector while truck is running i just did a reseal on the return lines because they were leaking. i pulled the injector out and cleaned the threds and i cant figure out why its leaking. it also looks like there is carbon build up inside the hole the injector goes in i find that odd. please give me any info you have im stuck driving my 1968 dodge pick up that gets 11 mpg i need to get my ford running again !! thanks :argh:

There could be something wrong with the nozzle cap. Also the copper washer at the very bottom of the injector could be bad.

i have 6.9 injectors from my old engine iv tryed 3 of them i cant tell if the copper ring is stuck in the head or not or if it was even there. the nozle cap can i fix that or clean it i just cant figure out why diffrent injectors are leaking when i put them in.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- :argh:ok iv found something in the head i think its the copper ring for the injector but im not sure because i pulled this injector out first time i found the leak and i didnt know about this little copper guy so i payed no attention to it so it could be it or it fell off the injector while i was messing with it. i cant get it out if it is in there... would it be bad to throw another one in and injector and try running it to see if my leak stopps or should i try and get it out if what im seeing is the copper ring. |
gota get it out. spray some pb blaster in and let soak the carbon, then use a hooked pick and pull the copper out.

On the 7.3L IDI is this a common thing to get injectors leaking? I have not had a chance to look yet to see where my leak is but i have a puddle of diesel fuel on top of my engine and a drip hitting the ground. Hoping it is something quick and easy to fix so I can get back to driving it. :bat:

I got it out ! It was stuck in there it was leaking because the copper gasket was pitted on one side I'm not sure how it happened Nuba new copper gasket fixed it !! On the road again :jump:

BVFD, your issue is probly just a return line or oring. they leak due to the new fuel.
ebay has complete kits. cost around 30 bucks. has new orings, caps, clamps, and lines. |
Ive been thinking that was the problem but debating on just putting in a new set of injectors. Im sitting at 185,000 miles any thoughts?
|
probly could use injectors.
|
well took truck to work today to put it in the shop there and look at it and guess what two of the injectors are spraying fuel out like crazy so I am going to get new injectors and an install kit. I was hoping it was just a return line so i could use some of the line at work to replace it until i get the injectors here.:argh:
