Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Does anyone know how to adjust or reset the TPS? I replaced it about two months ago and truck just doesn't seem to shift correctly from 2nd to 3rd. Seems to shift early. I put it back in same position, just doesn't seem right.

Is it an E4OD transmission?

hillbilly cadi 01-02-2011 09:37 PM

Yes it does have the E4OD. The truck is a 90 F350 Crew Cab E4OD 4x4 with a Banks sidewinder turbo kit on it. Pump is turned up 2 flats. 4" lift with 35's.

Talked to my buddy who had same problem, he found out it was a bad torque converter. Hope that is not your problem though.

It might not be your TPS.

i do know the tps has to be adjusted to the proper location for trans to work. just i dont know what it should be at. let me do some research.....

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Get a multimeter and put the red lead on the middle wire on the TPS connector (might need to slip a paperclip in there if your probes aren't sharp). Put the black lead on the neg side of the battery or a good ground. With an already warm engine (fast idle solenoid off) turn your ignition key to on (just shy of start) and keep it there. Now loosen and adjust your TPS (two torqs screws) and adjust for .92 - .94 or so at idle. Tighten the screws. Now slowly actuate the throttle and look for smooth increase in voltage, up to about 3.8 to 4 or so is normal. If the voltage jumps around or there is any dead spots, replace your TPS. Napa has them pretty cheap.

Thanks DC. I'll try that tomorrow. The trans and torque conv are only 30,000 miles old. They're built so I know its not that.

DieselCrawler 01-08-2011 12:22 AM
