Exhaust... Single Stack
I'll post in here, but this is out here for anybody to add to.
I'm looking at a single stack, something like 4 or 5 inches. I don't care to do double. Here's my concern: water. Should I worry about water intrusion, or rust? (I'm thinking long term here) Second question: where the heck can I get a single stack in black without paying $400?! (Need reducer, flex pipe, mounting bracket, etc.) |
make it yourself. mounts are easy, flex and the pipe can be bought from any truck shop. use high heat paint to make it black.
as for water, keep a coffey can in the truck. cover the stack when not in use. |
I thought about making it myself, but truck shops are far and few between around here.
There's a local metal supply, but the only 5inch he carries is 4ID. Clever idea with the coffee can, I'll remember that one! |
chromestackmafia.com they are really cheap
|
napa got a 4 inch stack and everything to reduce it down to my 2.75 exhaust. sounds good. water and stuff put a flapper on it 20 ucks at napa
|
silverline makes a sweet single stack kit. as for water, drill a hole at the lowest point in your exhaust (generally at the 90 going up thru the bed) doesnt have to be a large hole i would say nothing larger than a 1/4 inch. it will act as a weep hole and drain out any water that enters. no worrys about rust provided your truck is a daily drive and is stored in a garage. if you dont store it in a garage, i agree with the guy above, coffee can is cheap and it will keep your stack dry.

napa sells 5 inch pipe now but u have to buy it in 10 foot peices at $150

you dont need to cover your stack.i hav dual 5inch stacks.the soot sucks the water up.and plus the water will hav to travel up alot of exhaust tubing to do anything.but if your still gona freak just drill a hole and weld a nut on above the hole and put a bolt in
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- oh and if you put a coffee can on ur stack your gona scratch it |
i saw one that somebody pulled off a old dozer that didnt look bad on a dodge but if i remember rite it was like a 7 inch maybe too much for wut you want though
|
I had one on my truck, I pulled it off a Massey combine. It had a rain cap on it but it was busted and slipped off to one side so I got a new one for like 8 bucks from the farm and ranch store near me. I hit it with some silver high temp bbq paint(I don't like black stacks, just me).

I saw just the other day where someone was making and selling custom covers for stacks :tu:
|
just put the a 5 inch with a turn out on it you dont have to worrie a bout rain or anythang and you can buy the stack its self from napa or orielys they both cary just about everythang for a big truck may have to order it but that wher i get the stack that r on my uncles westernstar
|
water still gets into turnouts.when does rain ever go straight down.dont put anything on your stack it will scratch the crap out of it and it will look bad.if your worried about it so much dont even put them on
|
If your stack is black then i doubt the coffee can is going to make any scratches that are going to be able to be seen. Just my $.02.
|
water intrusion
unless you have stacks coming out off top of you engine it would take 2 to 4 gallions off water to to get into your engine.,and if its a daily driver thats not going to happen. So if it's going to sit all summer then put the coffee can on if your driving it every day don't worry about it.
|
it just keeps the water out so no water soaked soot will come out and cover the truck. that shit is hard to get off.

there are a bunch of websites that sell cover just go to google and type in what you want and the list will pop up i bought my from a 18 wheeler shop. for 40 bucks
|
very easy install but unless you make your own be prepared to spent the money . . . as of water you dont have anything to worry about but for rust, you will deffinently have your pipes rusted out within a couple years unless you run stainless steel like i did. look at it this way you will pay for the quality:tu:
