i have a question, how audible is the turbo whistle on these?

 

on a 7.3? should be pretty audible

 

depends on the year. 2nd gen powerstrokes are louder, 6.0's are louder and the 6.4's are loudest. Pre powerstroke 7.3's are almost inaudible if they are stock. Open the DP to a clear 3" and it will wake the turbo up a bit!

 

i dunno...my buddy has a 99 i believe with a strait pipe and holy shiznit his turbo is sooo loud. sounds like a jet all the time, even at idle! its awesome

 

On a 1991 ford, I just turboed it and you can't even hear it! That may be cause of I am use to the 5.9 ve cummins turbo SCREAMING but idk,

 

the 1st gen 7.3's just cant run the boost numbers that the strokes can, id be surprised if you could hear it and the high boost/variable vanes are the reason for the noise(which everyone loves) The screamers are the 6's. friggin jet planes!!

 

mine is load. but sounds like a VW turbo. high pitched. but i also am running the stock dp still, stright piped, and hypermax cowl induction.

 

The IDI turbos wont scream like the newer ones. I have a 3" down pipe, 4" exhaust and 5" stacks with a hypermax intake and it's loud enough to let you know that it's there. You cant hear it at idle at all, but cruising along in 3rd gear about 1500rpm it will sing for you. On a cold day with the windows up you can hear it whistling through the hypermax intake pretty good. Sometimes I play with the throttle and my wife who never notices anything about my truck will ask what I'm doing to cause the whistle.
