No start 7.3 idi non turbo

hello,

in advance, sorry for my horrible english, im from belguim. where i live there are practicly no 7.3idi's

My 7.3 idi non turbo won''t start and has sat for 2 years.
i put 2 cars with jumpleads on it so the starter turns fast enough.
there is a chance the fueltank was empty so i filled it and the injection pump definitly gets diesel at this point.

if i loosen a pipe at the injector and i crank there is practicly no fuel comming out, it kinda slow drips out ( shouldnt there be allot of pressure behind it??)

are all your glow plugs working?

if u just loosened the injecotr line, it will not "spray" out around the threads.

i took 2 gp's out and they where working ( i need a special spanner for the rest)

i don't know if the other 6 gp's work but if 2 work it should at least fire occasionaly on 2 cilinders but it does absolutely nothing.

i completely detached the injectorline from the injector and a few drups of diesel fel out when i cranked it.

if more then 2 gp are not working the engien will start hard.

i will check them as soon as possible.

but i still think there is air in the IP or the lines. is there a way to bleed them?

DieselCrawler 09-19-2010 07:23 PM

just cranking. only way to.

Is there any smoke coming out the tailpipe while cranking? White smoke would indicate the presence of fuel. Does the truck have a block heater, if so I would plug it in to help heat it up.

Victor 7.3 IDI 09-20-2010 01:09 AM

no smoke at the tailpipe,
it doesent give any sign of being alive, never fires on a cilinder.
i have fuel at the schadervalve but i think i have a problem with the injectorpump or with the injector lines. if there is air in the circuit the springs in the injectors wil not compress because the air does in the injectorlines.
im gonna try to bleed each injector by unscrewing it 1/2 from tight, press the air out by cranking and tighten it again. i hope it doesn't fry the starterengine
if that doesnt work i have to inspect the IP starting with the FSS.
the problem over here in belguim is that if i take it appart and i ruin a gasket or rubber seal i cant get a new one and ordering in the states will take weeks.

the car does not have a blockheater.

I would take the fuel filter off and spin over the motor. Fuel should poor out that will atleast eliminate a lift pump/ fuel supply problum. And you probably need a new fuel filter anyway. If that checks out you should blead your injectors loosen 1 up at a time and have someone crank the motor for you when you see constant fuel tighten the injector.
you also need to check to see if you have power at the injection pump should turn on and off with the key.

Good chance you have a glow plug problum. Now this is something I do all the time. I unhooked the glow plugs on my 85 6.9 diesel haven't used them in atleast 8 years. I use either. I use a farm tractor either injector you can get at any tractor dealer. This works great for me. you can take off the cold air hose off your air cleaner and just give it a 1 second squirt that is all it takes. rember less is better then more. If you have fuel at your injectors and a good batttery to turn the starter it will start even at freezing. But if you try this every glow plug must be unhooked or severe engine damage will occure!! :c:

today i took the upper cover of the injection pump of.
under the cover was a bowl filled with diesel
the rellais in the cover did not open or close when i turned the ignition on. i made shure the cable was attached properly and i closed the circuit again by holding the metal of the cover against the injection pump but with no result.:dang:
