Converting to 4x4

I want to convert my 92 crew cab long bed 2wd e4od dually to 4x4.
Ive got a complete donor my 88 standard cab long bed srw with a zf5 bw t-case.

The only problem im seeing is that my 88 srw has the dana 50 front axle. Ive been told that they will bolt right in place of the 2wd front control arms. My question is how do i avoid having to carry a dually spare and a normal srw spare tire? Was there ever a dana 50 dually made? I really dont want to go out and try to find a 60f around here bc even the balljointed ones are still big bucks around here bc the bronco guys putting them under their rigs

your duelly wheels will bolt-up, the dana 50 won't have the nipple on the hubs that your drw rear axle will have, so you can use just one spare. but it would have to be a wheel with the extra small hole in it. hope this is what you want to know if not, ask again with more details.

You can get adapters for them, some trucks had them from the factory. You do realize that you're going to have to pull the tranny right, that's why I went and bought a divorced NP205 for mine... PS you have the Dana 44HD

A D60 anywhere is usually big bucks. I saw one here not too long ago for almost $1000. Maybe try finding a wrecked or not running F350 4x4, you might be able to get a better deal, plus have any other parts that you might need/want for your truck. Just my 2 cents.

Okay well not quite sure what you meant about the smaller nipple that my drw has. But wont i have to run a large spacer to keep it from having the wheels sitting way to far in?

Richard Also are you sure i have the 44hd? Cause when i had u joint issues i took it into the ford shop and they told me I had the dana 50 Twin traction beam. Not that i really trust them bc they told me my truck didnt have glow plugs. But How can I tell which one I have? both part numbers for the arms are the same between the 44 and 50s acoording to my exploded view

On the backside of the diff it should have a number. I had a 50 in my 92 f-250 but it had a 460, not sure if diesels got the 44hd or 50.

Like 9191 said, or measure the ring gear, or the easest way would be to measure your lockouts, 50 is 4" if I remember correctly. The standard cab trucks (gass and diesel) were suppose to have the 44HD front and the extended cabs were suppose to have the 50 front, my conversion is getting the 44HD (same problem as you on the 60) and a divorced NP205 (because I don't want to tear the transmission appart to change the output shaft. If you put the ZF5 in it then do yourself a favor and ditch the DMF. Make sure that your gears match. You still living in Oh? You're going to need new driveshafts and to lift the rear to keep a rack to it.

Yep gonna be putting the zf5 in where the auto was. I will swap over the engine zf5 and borg warner t-case over and the factory rear blocks from the 88 to keep the rear at the right height and then put The whatever it is front end in the crew cab.

Wish i could get a 60 front but funds just arent there for it. Still trying to get it so its drivable bc im still having the no start acting like its lost its prime sotta spray it with ether crap to get it to start. Wont start off of Wd40 tried that.

When it does start does it smoke white? What gears does the crew have, because your 88 had 3.55 rear and 3.54 front.
