tach sensor HELP?
 

i have a 93 ford f250 w/ a 7.3 turbo diesel in it
and was wondering where the tach gets its info from my tach isnt working the fuse is good changed the tach itself w/onother one but have the same problem
i know there is a sensor some where because when i step on the fuel pedal all the way the tach flutters ( if thats a word not too sure :-) i checked all around cant find anything - the closest i found was a sensor looking deal on top of the timing gear box for the fuel injection pump any help would be greatly appp.

It sounds like you found it already, the tach sensor is located on the IP gear cover towards the driver side. It is partially covered by your vacumn pump, but can be removed with the pump in place. I think you need a 1" wrench to remove it and it has 2 wires coming out of it. The sensor is a dealer only item and will run about $80. I replaced mine a few months ago.
