Hard starting, new glow plugs

Okay well after putting new return line down to the frame i put new Motorcraft glow plugs and relay in the truck also new fuel filter. Still starts like crap takes about 10 rotations and foot held to the floor to pop off after it has been running for a 2hr drive. My old 88 after its been started once for the day pops off no need to cylce the glow plugs. In the mornings its hell takes 5 minutes or so to get the stupid thing started. What do ya think could be wrong that its starting so hard? This is the 92 in my sig

OKay I have a feeling that its gotta do with my fuel system but not sure. I tried turning up the injection pump and got nothing no smoke no extra pep. I turned it up 1 flat nothing tried 3 still nothing backed it back down to 1flat. Has 204,000 miles on the ticker and someone before me had put a rebuilt international fuel systems injection pump on it but its cruddy looking so im guessing its been on there a while.

Not sure what or where to look next?

Hmm:humm: Not Familiar with the 7.3 idi but sounds like a Fuel supply problem to me...

been working on the idi motors a long time
take off the fuel solonid cover, look at the coil, sometimes you cn here them click, but
if the coil epoxy is funkey it wont make enough power to pull the arm back all the way, also there is usualy crud down in the bowel and around the springs ,clean it good
rule#1 if an idi has fuel in fuel out and no air it will run push start in 3d gear, allways works

I would say your Lift Pump has Gone South on vacation with no intentions of returning ha ha :chess:

not always. the last one i worked on for a guy on here, not going to mention any names james, put his IP on 180 degrees off. had fuel in and out, had air. no matter how hard he tried it wouldnt start. lol so that rule isnt always true.

Well i know its not 180 degrees out bc the truck runs just fine once it gets started. Actually runs really smooth like a powerstroke and dont have the choppy idle like the idi's usually do.

I took off the fuel line coming from the fuel pump to the filter and just jumped the starter solenoid and it shot a good large stream all the way across to the driver side of the truck and kept a steady flow after i got a piece of rubber hose on it into a bucket. It seemed to be pumping a good amount of fuel so im not sure if that means the lift pump is good? guess my next step is to try and test pressure at the filterhousing. I guess if thats good time to take it into the shop and have them test the Injection pump and injectors.

Lift pump is good. I'd check the return solenoid as mentioned above. But you don't really need to remove it to check it. If the click is pretty strong it's good. If it's weak, it's no good. If it doesn't click at all, make sure you got power to the wire. If no power, just run a jumper from the fuel cutoff (larger wire).
