Fuel Guage
 

Ok my 86 F250 has a fuel guage issue. It was showing about a quarter tank so I knew not to run her empty so I filled it up and she would only take 9 gallons with 200 miles on the clock. Are the tanks the same size as the gasser f150's? My main question is would it be the fuel sender or the guage because the rear tank I haven't run low yet. i thought my last f150 had an 18 gallon up front and a 15 in the rear. I just want to have some idea how far I can go without running dry.Also I know this is a different subject but can this motor run on 2stroke without issue like many others? I notice when I run diesel kleen in it she is a lot quieter but she only has 103k on it to begin with.

I have the same issue on my 86 6.9......while hauling my drift car to utah when i moved i stopped to put fuel in cuz it said quarter tank and it only held the same 9 gallons.....I was actually just going to post something about this lol. hope someone can answer both of us

The tanks should only hold about 16 gallons each. When you fill up does the guage read full? I know on my 85 F-250, the longest lasting part of the tank was the last 1/4, it would go well past empty before actually running dry. On my 93 however, I fill it when it hits 1/4 and it usually takes 12-14 gallons.

Lots of people add 2-stroke oil when they fill up to help keep things lubricated since the introduction of ULSD fuel. I recently found some sulphur substitute that I am going to try.

Thanks for the info sycostang. Yeah the guage reads past full when I fill her up so I reckon its just one of those things to get used to. I added some 2cycle oil that i had for my boat and it did quiet it up a good bit! I actually went through the drive-thru without having to shut her off lol. Im definitely a beleiver now.

ive been using a sulpher substitute since january and truck runs great still have to shut truck off at the drive through but then again cant talk to anyone in the truck when drivin but im bout to start runnin red diesel so i shouldnt need to worry bout the additive

According to my books, my 94' F350 has a front capacity of 22 gal. and the rear tank capacity is 18.2 gal. My front tank doesn't read (I'm guessing because either the sending unit is junk or the float has a hole in it). Back tank reads. I KNOW that the rear runs out at a 1/4 tank (and pretty sure that the front runs out at a 1/4 also) due to the pick-up has rotted. No problem. I just need to know the sending unit numbers for each tank. Is the front assembly, not just the sender but the whole assembly, number F6TZ-9275-CA? If not does this unit work at all on this truck or what does it fit on?

really jeff, going to dig up a thread that is over two years old? come on now.

Guess I should have started a new one about that part number.
