manual trans length??
 

Im lookin for the lengths of a t19 2wd and a Zf5 2wd if anyone could messure theirs it would be much appreciated. Gonna try and use a divorced 205 in my truck and theres only so much room before i run into the radiator. This is for my 79 dodge project thats getting converted to IDI diesel this summer.

why run divorced?

If you are building a dedicated trail rig, a divorced case can give you better driveline angles. If you space it right you can also make both driveshafts the same length that way you only need to carry 1 spare shaft.

I'm not sure if it helps, but people who have swapped the t19 for a ZF claimed they were able to reuse there original driveshaft. They did have to move the crossmember a couple inches though as the mount is further back on the body.

The reason i wanna run divorced is so i can mount a 7.3 or 6.9 in a 79 dodge power wagon which is set up for running a right hand front drive shaft. I wanna keep the stock axles since I just rebuilt them and everything just wanna go diesel. I find these engines simpler to maintain and more reliable. Im hoping to be able to use the stock driveshafts mount the 205 in the stock location and move the engine forward alittle if I have to so i can run the short driveshaft inbetween the trans and 205. Its gonna be a truck that spends about 75% off road. A friend of mine did a similar set up in when he converted his his 4x4 dodge to a 12valve cummins using a 2wd trans.

So to get back on track any measurements on the trans lengths?

I'd measure them if I had either of them. I even tried looking around online. The only thing I could find was the measurement of the t19 case, which is 11.87" that doesn't include the bellhousing.

even if u made the shafts same length, u still need t carry 2 shafts. i never liked the jack shaft in them. my buddy always would break his in his 74 f350

I never considered making the same length drive shafts for the front and rear never wanted to even consider trying makin that much custom stuff.

The truck is gonna see most of its time offroad 75% of the time as a trail rig not rock crawling or anything like that. Its gonne be a multi purpose trail/ farm truck carrying a fuel tank in the bed and extra tools that kinda stuff. It'll have to be able to pull wagons and stuff like that.

Im tryin to decide whether to but a 2wd trans and divorce the t-case using the stub shaft. or use the existing ZF5 and BW t-case and just convert the dodge to a left hand drop axle. I gotta price stuff to see what is cheaper and requires less custom building.

I had the dodge's axles rebuilt and a spare set of drive shafts thats why i didnt really want to have to change to left side drop. And the 205's came stock in a Dodge and they will bolt right in instead of having to custom build alot of stuff. I know the engine will probly sit farther forward in the engine bay running the divorced set up.

The 205 wont bolt to the ZF extension housing? I know the NP208 and BW1345/56 are interchangeable but I dont know if the 205 is NV or NP.

a ford 205 will bolt up to the zf, but it will still be on driverside drop.

Well I pretty much decided i was gonna use a divorced set up since the ZF5 and borg warner outta my 88 are too long so gonna try a divorced set up up. I wanna keep the existing axles so i still gotta go crawl the junk yards and see what the length of the 4spd is and find a divorced 205.
