Does pumping more fuel all the time increase fuel consumption...:humm:

Is this a trick question? :w2: Are you just fucking with us? :nope:

Hello agian.

My problem with this 7.3 idi (it has 103,000 miles) is that when I try to maintain a highway speed (50-60 mhp)going up a steep hill the engine loses power, starts to miss and make that pinpng sound.
Then it down shifts (automatic trans). The engine strains very hard to climb the grade, I'm down to 35-40 mph now w/cars trying to pass, Very annouying and almost dangerous.
Then engine does'nt smoke when this happens. It seems engine is starving of fuel. It has new fuel filter.
Is it bad fuel (low cetene)?
Fuel pump timing?
Bad fuel injectors? (not sure how old they are)
ALL THE ABOVE?..lol
In town driving it runs like a champ except when I excellorate a little harder than normal
then it pings/misses a little.

Another question:
How in the world dose this 7.3L exhale through a single 2-1/4" exhaust pipe?
Could this be part of the prolem?

would very much appreciate any help.
SB

I tried turning my pump up and got my allen wrench in there but it wouldnt turn at all. It might sound stupid but someone told me to pop it in neutral to do it. Any ideas?

When I try to roll the engine the Allen never becomes visible even when I had stud sitting at the 12 o'clock position, what could this be?

94 7.3 idi turbo 12-11-2013 06:51 PM

I recently turned up my 94 7.3 idi factory turbo and it only turned about one half of a turn then stopped it would not go anymore. Would anybody have an idea about this. I just want it to roll coal lol.:humm:

94 .... u want to need a new set of pistons ? ... black smoke is unburt fuel = more cylinder heat and can damage the internals of the cylinder ... like scoring up the cylinders and melting the insert in the head .. read then go and do it .. also might wanna get a Pyrometer before you play too much .. or you will be sorry ..:argh::argh:

94 7.3 idi turbo 12-11-2013 09:25 PM

I do have a piro a boost and a trans temp not that the last really matters in this case. Also my brother is a nashville auto diesel college graduate and he and I were both raised in a mechanic atmosphere so I know I little about the heat. No disrespect intended. Now I know what unburnt fuel is and how to a certain point it makes the engine create more heat buutttttt. At a certain point the more you turn up the fuel the more it acually cools the cylinders and engine down. My brother and I found this out on his 91 7.3 idi n/a I want to get mine past that point so it will roll coal and still stay cool. Any ideas why the fuel screw wont turn anymore than one half of a flat?:w2:

Also just wondering I have come to find out that the injectors in the factory turbo trucks were code gg injectors are what does this mean is it more or less flow than say the bb injectors? :humm::argh:

4x4manonbroke 12-12-2013 08:51 PM

yes BB codes have a bit bigger orfices and more flow .... and about 1 1/2 turns seemed to wake my N/A up quite a bit ...

wasnt sure what you knew about the whole heat/fuel issue .. i always assume its a kid who just got his first truck .. ya know...:s:
