Default Is it safe to bore a 7.3 1990 .030 over?

I have a 1990 7.3 IDI with a ATS turbo on it. At 227K mile I broke a piston and need to sleeve that cylinder. Is it safe to bore the other 7 cylinders .030 to clean up the block? I bought this truck new in 1990 and use it to pull an enclose 24 ft. car trailer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Contnder

With the cavitation issue these blocks have, I wouldn't think so. Most guys sleeve the motor back to a 6.9.

Thanks for your help! Not sure whether to sleeve my block or go with a reman. engine. I have heard horror stories with some of the remanufactured engines.

Thanks again!

its safe to sleeve but only if the machine shop you go to knows what they are doing. there has to be a step machined at the bottom to hold the sleeve in place or the sleeve will fall down and i'm sure you can imagine what happens then

Thanks Sootman! I teach automotive and machinists classes at a community college in Virginia, but this is the first diesel that we have had to machine. I see that they make .030 over pistons for the 7.3, but wasn't sure if it is safe to bore that much.

Thanks,
