Glow plugs not getting hot

My 88 F250 7.3 5spd when i turn the key it acts like it did this summer wait to start light come on goes out. Now its just cranking and crankin to get it started.:argh: The glow plug relay/ controller is clicking under the hood so i tested at the glow plug and im not getting voltage at the plug itself. What would you say the problem is? Wiring bad or relay/ controller? im sure lost here.

The glow plug harness is fusible linked, could be burnt up. Check and see if you got power on the other side.

But if the fusible link was blown wouldnt the relay not click? just a thought i had

I would check each of your glow plugs with a test light. If enough of them are burnt out it will cause the relay to click off to soon as the extra resistance fools the controller into thinking the plugs are hot. I found I had 2 burnt GP's and after replacing them, my WTS light stays on longer than it used to.

yea even one glow plug on the idi's will make the controler shut down faster so if you have more than one out it will not cycle them near long enough

Well must have burnt out glow plugs then. WTS light flashes on once then just clicks for maybe 2 to 3 secs then is done. I dont think they have ever been changed and its got 180k miles on it. Any recomendations on what ones i should replace them with and will i most likely twist them off?

Go with motorcraft glow plugs, they should have Beru stamped on them. Other brands have been know to swell and split. Then you end up removing a head to get the bits.

make sure to bring each cyl to TDC before removing plug. that way if it does break off, it cant drop into cyl. just stays in pre chamber and with a vaucumm u might be able to get it out.

heres a short right up.

Hey thanks that really helps alot on the glow plugs there crawler im gonna have to give it a try that way bc this thing jus wont start otherwise and i hate having to give a shot of ether to be able to make it to work on time. it doesnt help pluggin it in or not plugging it in still cranks forever then just smokes.i even use the grill bra as much as possible while at work and if i can park close to the building so the air doesnt cool it down as much as sitting in the middle of the lot.

Ive got a friend that works at a international dealership here and he told me he can get me factory international ones would those be the same as the motorcraft??
