7.3 in custom explorer any comments?
so whta im doin is makin a trail rig that doubles as my parts runner. if you know what a explorer looks like remove the roof from the windshield all the way to the hatch and cut out those funky cargo windows... add a steel deck in the cargo area for parts and tools...put one ton axles and gear under neath a 4 inch body lift and im still deciding how high i want to go for suspension... i got a well used mechanical 7.3 and auto tranny to put in there but i need a t-case. any one gots any ideas or comments accessory sugestions... and sorry to those hard core ford fans... but the tail gate was from a chevy...

good luck on gettin that thing to fit... hope it works out... oh and the IDI is pretty heavy, make sure the front suspension can handle a 1500-2K motor....

the 6.9/7.3 only weight 1200 dry. still heavy though. your biggest problem will be width and length. it will interfere with your heater box and your brake booster.
we have installed one into a 78 f250 and it needed a 3 inch body lift and major hammering on the firewall to clear the motor. your explorer engine bay is alot smaller then a 78 f250's. lol |
Interesting idea... but I think you will find it will not get much past that point... A 4BT would be slick, or even one of the older Toyota Diesels

The motor is way too heavy for that frame let alone the engine bay is way too small. But I seen some things stranger then that happen. My advice screw the beer get the hard stuff your going to need it.
