I have a huge problem. I recently bought a 1991 f-350 two wheel drive crewcab dually with the 7.3 idi non turbo. I have straight piped it and nothing else. I had to pull a piece of junk old alarm system off of it that was causing problems, and fixed the window motor. But i have a new problem. I recently was out dove hunting with my boy and we started to drive up a small hill that is in the field and as I was accelereating up it was like the truck dumped all over its self and almost stalled. It was like it just gave up. Started out strong then just kind of starved itsself out. It then slid on me and I got stuck. This truck only has about a hundred thousand original miles on it. now these are known for being pullers and this just stumped me. I have 4:10 gear in the rear end and I could have gone up this hill in a pinto!! It was damn embaressing to have to have the neighbor come pull me out with his 90 ford 7.3idi non turbo single cab 2 wheel drive. any ideas? this is my first diesel and I love it. It runs down the road great but seems very lacking for power.....The previous owner pulled race car trailers with it, and it seems like it wants to do more but is starved for something.......Any ideas, what to check? Thanks........

I have a new problem that has popped up. I changed the fuel filter on my F-350 7.3 and spilled some diesel on the manifold. Around the glowplug on the left side of the engine (facing it) It appreared that there was air? coming out of the engine and or it was boiling. There were bubbles in the fuel it looked like someone blowing through a straw in liquid. Im really worried right now. what can this mean? Any ideas.....................

Also the truck seems to drive fine under normal driving, but put any load on it and the problems start.......Im starting to think that I got screwed on this truck.......

possible intake manifold gasket leak, or a small crack in it. maybe some one else will chime in here :U:

Hmm... well to start whats it got for a transmission? If its Automatic it will have a vacuum cluster on the drivers side that advices the injection pump shifting and along with a shaft that goes down to the transmission. Also controls the pump during shifts. Any one of those could kill the power.

Now if its the Manual its doesn't have any controls its all done though the engine.

Well off the top of my head it sounds like your fuel pump is dumping its nuts. I noticed when power was lacking it was the fuel pump was the problem but adding the rest of what you found it sounds like to got leaks all over the engine.

Well my next question is what did the guy add or work on the engine?

Now, the glow plugs showing signs of air, sometime i noticed injectors and glow plugs could be lose and allowing air to come out though the threads, or it could me that your valves are damaged pitted or cracked possibly.

Oh that makes me feel much better! NOT! Great I hope I didn't get fu#*#* on this truck! I could barely afford it n borowed money from everyone to get it! I'm getting very discouraged here! I have the e4od tranny freshly rebuilt n the truck runs strong except under load. I'm a disabled cop that had to retire from injuries sustained in the line of duty n my ex wife took my truck, n car, hit me for alimony, etc so I have little money to fix this. I'd love to turbo it but I have to make due with what I have. Grrrrrrrrrrrr! It looks like air is leaking round the glowplug. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Alright, That gives me a bit more to work with. I Havent work on the old IDI's with the E4OD, Mostly the 444E 7.3

Ok first thing would be to see if the glow plugs are tight. If so that should solve your problem, If they are tight as shit and still leaking air you may have either like i have said bad valves or a valve is sticking open. I am going to bring a few books home from work on your transmission from work and try to find out some other Idea and easy ways to solve it. But try that for now and see what happens.

And I know the feeling all too well While I was in MCRD ((Boot Camp)) My Ex-Fiancé drained all my accounts sold my tools and my grand pa's Mustang out from under me and ran off into Air Force. Kind of a real shocker when You come home to get married to no one and have nothing back home.

Well Now I feel Like a total idiot on this one, well try taking out your leaking Glow plug and finding a small brush and cleaning out the glow plugs hole. Sometimes Carbon deposits get inside that cause the glow plugs not to seat properly. That should solve your problem.

I had the a problem like this one but it was my injectors and my valve was stuck open. My mistake on that.

my truck had the same problem when i changed the starter solonid on the fender i don't know if you got the same set up but i had a wire that controled the tranny hooked up to ground so i wasn't getting power to the tranny( it was like i was always stareting in 2nd gear with no power to the wheels)that solonid should only have the starter wire on one side and the otherside has everything else including the tranny wire. give it a look at.

crack in the pick up tube in the fuel tank. It may have started pulling air. Mine is doing that and right now until I get it fixed if I get under a 1/4 tank I run out of fuel.

I have a good take out 7.3 turbo came off a 1996

Merry Christmas

pay for shipping and you can have it

I took it off because I ordered a new bigger turbo for it.

might want to have it checked out, it has been sitting for awhile
