A/C COMPRESSOR

bought my first diesel 1993 7.3 IDI the truck came with the A/c Compressor in the back seat. the truck has A/c stock but was removed for some reason. does anyone have some pointers on putting it back on? usually dont mess with A/c on my vehicles, but we have been having record highs in Oregon this year.

thank you for the help.. and yes i tried searching first.

AC Reinstall

hi First everything must be clean does it look like its been that way for a while ? If so the best thing to do is get it flushed. you could bolt it back together but if their is crud in the lines it will just die. My unit uses R12 this will be really expensive so figure on a retrofit kit (not expensive ) anyway you do it will have to be evacuated so the best bet will go to a AC shop ask him what you can do to keep costs down and let him do the rest. I don't think that what you wanted to hear that but if you don't have the equipment it will cost you more to do it yourself.

A/C Compressor

Since it is off the truck you may as well check it out and make sure it is not froze up look for the electric clutch wire if you have a battery charger hook the neg to the compressor the touch the wire for the clutch to the Pos. you should hear a click if you do go ahead and attach it to the Pos. cable you should be able to turn the pulley by hand you also should hear air as you turn it. The retrofit kit does not cost that much you can do that yourself not that hard hopefully the previous owner just cap off the ends and did not cut the lines! If you put it back on your self make sure that you do request a flush of the system and tell them what was done and what you have done! Just as Freezzman said! in the furture if you need to have it recharged you can do that your self about $20 for the hose a gauge and $10 to $16 for freon.
