7.3 IDI turbo suggestions
Hey guys, I've got a 1988 7.3 IDI and I'm not gonna lie I know very little about diesels or engines in general. I'm looking to turbo my truck all I've found so far is a Banks Sidewinder does anyone have any other suggestions for a turbo?

There might be another aftermarket, but I don't know about it.
I've driven a truck with a banks and it was nice. It was a 1988 F350 2wd dually and it makes a pretty big difference. |
I am in a similar situation with a 7.3L non turbo idi. It struggles over 55 in 5th and 4th is pushing 3000 rpms when pulling my roughly 10,000 lbs trailer. Do I NEED a turbo or can I do other things that will give me the little boost I need to maintain 55 in 5th. I'm not asking her to fly or anything just don't want to run in 4th or constantly be shifting on the hwy.

A turbo will help her breath better. Not overly familiar with the IDI engines, just been looking at them recently since the father in law is wanting to get into one. The more air you can add to the combustion of fuel the more power its going to make.

get a used ATS 093 setup .. much better than the banks or CTS . its pretty much what the factory 93-94 7.3 turboed engines used ...
if you want new ... R&D IDI preformance , makes new turbo kits . they will support more HP than anything else .. he has proven 400/800 . |
I looked up the R&D IDI performance page, looks pretty legit and the price is nice including the intercooler. Really wish a 4" exhaust was included. Exhaust is pretty cheap though. Thanks for the feed back! Will I need to turn up the injector pump and or the fuel pump after installing the turbo. I'm not looking to smoke, just maximum performance in power and mpgs :jump:
