1988 7.3 D International Engine stalls

1988 F250 Lariat 7.3 Diesel International

When taking the foot off the accelerator, the engine stalls starts fine runs ok, i am thinking the Idle air control. Though i am not familiar with this style and i haven't been able to find anything except the gaskets.

Can someone set me straight on what i am dealing with ?? :c:

These trucks have no idle air control valve. Is your idle speed set correctly? I would remove and drain your fuel filter and fill it up with ATF. Let it idle for about 5 minutes then shut it off. After about 15 minutes of sitting, drive it like you stole it. If you have something dirty going on in your IP, that might help clear it up.

I'd refrain from atf. Atf is a detergent like soap and has sandpaper like particles in it as friction modifiers. Do what you wish but NVR catch me putting it in tank I'll stick with my diesel two stroke oil and Howes lubrication:pca1:

Type F ATF will chew things up, never had an issue with the synthetic fluids. It made a night and day difference when my 86 was resurrected after a 10 year nap in a field. it's over 200k and still purrs like it's new. I toss in a bottle at every filter change.
