Ram Air Ideas on a 91 7.3 IDI

anyone have any luck or ideas on putting in a forced air sytem via hood scoop? just wondering if anyone has seen this done, attempted it, or know if it would help...
want to try various thing before I think about some sort of turbo on my 91 ford f-250 XLT Lariat, 4x4 ext. cab... in the process of looking for some performance injectors, or even just better than stock injectors, and thought about throwing some more airflow into it as well....
my exhaust, (which honestly does not sound like any diesel anyone has ever heard- I've been told by traffic followers that it has a rumble to it like a nascar race car, and that it is the absolute loudest rumble, no whistle, all rumble, they have ever heard on any vehicle) is the standard size of the exhaust manifold, increased to a single 4" single straight pipe all the way to the tip... so I am thinking, more air in, compressed and combusted should help with mileage, power, and overall efficiency?...

never seen a Ram air intake on a diesel myself... thought it might make it look as intimidating and powerful as it sounds....
any suggestions?

A large Air cleaner and some luvering in a hood will go a long ways, I have been thinking about making some sort of provision behind the grill to pull fresh un heated air , I only worry about the Rain goin in to the engine, may or may not be an issue ??

That first link has a pic of my truck with my old ATS air box. I am still using the hypermax kit but with a different filter setup. This is what I run now, hypermax cowl kit with an inline filter to the turbo. It builds boost much quicker, turbo is louder and no issues with rain yet.

The hypermax kit will work with an N/A airbox as well and I highly recommend it. I did some temp tests when I first mine. Hypermax vs stock tube vs no tube and the hypermax did achieve much lower intake temps than the other two.

I do like the looks ... Any power gains or mpg ??

That is sweet looking, I got my home built intake and now that the heat is coming have noticed that once my engine is warm and I shut it off for awhile, allowing the engine compartment to heat up. She has less power and blows way too much smoke. Need to get cool air in the intake, not just free up the air flow.

I cant tell if there is any MPG gains, I'm lucky to drive it once a week right now so I never fill the tank. I did notice that boost builds a lot quicker and easier than before.

Free'd up the incoming air charge .. nice

on the N/A this would be nice to get some of the "noise" out from under the hood ... Mine growls real loud ..( When its running of course ) ...
