How long do you think you will have the wheels for sale bud?

RamBow3500 02-20-2014 10:50 AM

I done this exact gear change several year ago

I had a 2006 F350 DW I ordered the truck with 4.11 gear...The 5th wheel trailer I had then weighed 13,500...The truck pulled OK however the fuel mileage was 9 when hauling the trailer and 12 when not...So I had the ring and pinions changed to 3.55 WHAT A MISTAKE the truck was a lazy dog afterwards...Sure it got 16 on the HYWY when not hauling the trailer but 8 when hauling the trailer it was horrible...I wished I would have went to 3.73 and not made such a drastic change...When you drive something that weighs 8,000 LBS. fuel mileage should not be an issue...

:nice: exactly right, but still the thought of at least being able to get decent mileage on my rid would be a nice idea. I do not do a lot of hauling right now, so I wouldn't mind the swap

I am hoping with my 7.3 and only pulling a couple hundred miles on weekends to and from the lake, the 355 gear will do me just fine. Because the rest of the time I just roll empty. My barge and trailer weigh out about 3000 lbs.

Dortiz 02-20-2014 06:21 PM

You should be pretty good then, only real work would be going up those steep grades

hobbieman 02-20-2014 06:30 PM

All flat around here, it seems the only one having trouble are haulers and smaller engines......

Dortiz 02-20-2014 08:09 PM

I can't imagine any reason not to do the swap then

hobbieman 02-21-2014 02:05 AM

I am thinking that , like one of the others said, I will have to change internal
Diferencle also. The ring and pinion is 169.00 not sure on the other. Still
In the checking on stage.

Mine is a semi float rear....

Dortiz 02-21-2014 07:35 AM

Don't believe so, I know it wouldn't hurt anything to leave it. But it should not be a requirement to change for it to work

hobbieman 02-21-2014 07:38 AM

I am talking to a pro at the ford dealer, Monday, then I will get the low down, enjoy ur weekend. O by the way the Vikings predict tomorrow is the end of the world. O well cya
