92 f250 2wd 7.3 idi

i have a 92 f250 7.3 idi i had to replace a foot section of fuel line with rubber fuel line. the fuel filter went half dry i pulled it off 3/4 times and had to fill the filter up from half and the truck will run for a second then drain the filter half way and shut off. i keep topping the filter off with atf but it wont stay full how do i fix this. is it possible that air is still in the line

Yes it is possible there is air in the lines. But it also sounds like your lift pump may have an issue. I would get that checked out.

I would definitely say lift pump, or, how low is the fuel tank, I'm having pick up tube issues so mine doesn't get fuel out of the tank once it's below 1/4 tank. If your lower than a 1/4 tank you may also be having pick up tube problems in your tank, the last part is plastic and they dry out and crack.

ok thanks. i'm gonna start by putting a gauge on the shader valve. if i get a good reading im gonna try cracking the injectors... how common is it for the lift pump on these truck to crap out and can air cause the lift pump to die

Very common for the lift pumps to crap out, Installing an inline electric pump would be a good move

i'm only getting 1.5 pounds at the shader valve on top of the fuel filter to my under standing it should be 5/6 i'm not to sure but i'm just gonna change the lift pump. how hard and long of a job should this be

A depends on what your doing I just put a electronic one one mine took about 2 hours and 4 beers so if you get right to it problem a hour to change the Manuel one to manual about a half hour

Two bolts 9/16 I think and two lines ones a hose clamp the others a 5/8 steel not hard but dirty

Dortiz 02-06-2014 09:10 PM

It will be hard just due to the fact that it's an awkward place. Other than that it is straight forward

forgot to add that a healthy lift pump should put up to about 4-6 psi, an below and should replace

teddygirone 02-06-2014 09:26 PM

did the lift pump and im only reading 3 pounds but its still airbound... how hard is it to go about bleeding the injectors one by one

4x4manonbroke 02-06-2014 09:45 PM

sounds like air intrusion to me ... do you still have the filter below drivers door on frame ?

also an electric pump should feed about 8-10 psi @ fuel filter inlet .. :tu:

It sounds to me like either one of two things .... pinched fuel line or fuel shut down sloenoid in IP is weak and not allowing it to stay running .. even with just 3 psi it should at least idle ...:humm:
