More air

My truck has new injectors and an upgraded IP, but even turned all the way down, and timed to 10 BTDC I'm still blowing black smoke, was wondering what I can do to allow more air into the engine, without getting a turbo, as I'm already piecing together my own kit

I had it at 12 the other day and smoked too much lol, This is the sweet spot for my mileage so far, currently getting 17 city

Dortiz, what's yours set at, 12, should I set mine there, I haven't got any EG gauge yet, should I worry about that yet with no other mods yet.

Dortiz 01-13-2014 03:55 PM

it's at 10, but I need to get a gauge as well, It would be a good idea to get it before anything else, don't want to go melting pistons

I'm going to try a hydrogen cell on this truck, and see if that improves the mileage, currently have it on a 02 elantra and almost doubled my mpg, I also have a 95 f150 with a 351 that's a gas hog, I'm talking 8-9 mpg highway, and it's now around 14-15, can only imagine what it will do for this :choochoo:

Sounds good, I knew a guy who started working for a guy in the Sacramento area doing conversions to people's cars. But I think they went full conversions so you only used water. Blows my mind, and yea I've been afraid to do anything to my truck till I get a pyro gauge. I looked on eBay and they still wanted grip for them, but saw it seemed like any brand in celcius was half price compared to Farenhieght gauges?

Also is that timing it without a probe to tell you when the injector fires?

I honestly don't know, I believe it was with the adapter that goes onto the number one cylinder line, I asked my instructor to do it while I was over in the hydraulics class

Ahh, did you go to UTI? I graduated in '96, before they had one campus, it was scattered over 3-4 different building and locations.

No I go to CAC (Central Arizona College) I'm in the diesel technologies courses, not bad for still being in high school as well :choochoo:
