Transmission question
I have a 94 f250 7.3 turbo diesel. It has the 4 speed with overdrive auto tranny. I went to a local junkyard and they have an almost newly rebuilt 4 speed overdrive manual tranny that's in a f150.
My question is would that tranny fit to my engine? Or is there an adapter I could buy to make it fit? |
the 7.3 uses the big block bolt pattern, where as the F150 will more than likely have a small block bolt pattern.
There are adapters to make it happen, but they generally run in the $1500 or so price range. You may be better off to go with a newer ZF transmission from a 7.3. Why are you planning to go to a manual trans? An auto trans behind a turbo diesel is a beautiful thing. You may be happeir and money ahead to stick w/your auto and doing a mild rebuild on it. Have to figure in manual pedals, clutch linkage (or hydraulics), flywheel, clutch, drive shafts, etc. |
yeah I would love if it mine was an auto ....

these engines can use the Big Block 460 5spd ... my understanding is there is some fab required ( like drilling ) ... if you can find one in decent condition...
