5 speed manual tough to get into reverse.
 

I have been reading on forums about this issue and am having trouble finding info for my situation.

Its a 91 7.3 IDI with a 5 speed trans. The guy I bought it from told me that he just had the master and slave cylinders on the clutch replaced. At first, I didn't notice an issue with the reverse gear. But as I go on, I am finding it harder to get the thing to go into reverse. Usually, it will grind when I let the clutch out, and on one occasion, it popped out of gear entirely.

It will go into reverse just fine about 1/4 of the time. I have found that going from either 2nd or 5th into reverse seems to help, but haven't tested this enough to know for sure.

I looked at the firewall from the inside, and noticed it was flexing a very small amount when the clutch is depressed. I have also read that there are bushings on the clutch pedal that can wear causing the clutch to not depress all the way. This sounds like a reasonable statement, because If I don't push the clutch to the floor as hard as I can, it feels like reverse isn't even there. So it seems like the clutch isn't being depressed enough???

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

could be the bushings .... good place to start and the cheepest thus far ... also could be the shift collar in the trans ( as this an issue ... too ruff on the shifting will cause this)... also i'm not too sure if the fords have the same issue with the throw out fork ball wearing out but that would be my next suspision then on to the inside of the trans ... swing by your local trans shop and just have them look it over before spending any cash ... make sure they show you whats going on .... never just take thier word... unless its someone you trust of course
