:s:please help
My problem with this 7.3 idi (it has 147,000 miles) is that when I try to maintain a highway speed (50-60 mhp)going up a steep hill the engine loses power, starts to miss and make that pinpng sound.
Then it down shifts (automatic trans). The engine strains very hard to climb the grade, Then engine smokes white when this happens. It seems engine is starving of fuel. It has new fuel filter. Is it bad fuel (low cetene)? Fuel pump timing? i tried to time it but couldnt get the pump to move Bad fuel injectors? boy i bought it off of said he put new in it the ip? he said its turned up 4 flats ALL THE ABOVE?.. In town driving it runs like a champ except when I excellorate a little harder than normal then it pings/misses a little. |
White smoke can be a sign that the injectors/injection pump are going bad. Do you have a pyro gauge hooked up to watch exhaust temp? With the pump turned up 4 flats I'd be worried about burning up the engine. My last truck(86 6.9) had some white smoke and made weird noises. I never tore into the motor before I sold it for parts but I'm convinced it had a hole in the number 8 cylinder.
