1991 Ford F250 2 dr 4X4 7.3 Diesel economy mileage
 

On last Friday I bought this pickup. I have a lot of challenges to get it all working right but they are relatively minor. My big concern right now, since it seems to run well, is to increase the mileage as much as I can.

I would like to hear the experiences of others for how you have improved your fuel meleage. And do the tuners or chips really work?

I have a 93 7.3 idi with a turbo and im getting an average of 14. On a good day lol. These trucks werent meant to get good mpg's. although you can get up to 20. All the people who say intakes and what not will increase mpg arent right most of the time. I have big tires on mine. im running 33x12.50x16.5. Make sure you have smaller tires. possibly try 275's or around the same size. also check for aerodynamics. weight is another thing to look for. these older engines being allllllllllll mechanical, unfortunately, you cant put a chip that i know of in them. im trying to find out if you can convert it to computer though. hope this helped a little:tu:

No chips or tuners for these trucks. I agree with what the other guy said mostly, but tire size is relative to gear set. You'll need a certain size range of tires to get the best fuel economy out of your trucks gear set. Also narrower highway terrain tires have less rolling resistance big wide mud tires. Cut weight down where you don't need it, keep your tire pressure up and watch how you drive. One other thing is to leave the injection pump at the stock setting if you know it hasn't been turned up. I see you recently bought the truck so you may not know the history on it. Hope that helps.

Aside from what has been said fuel quality make a big diff in mpgs and I don't know what your money situation is like but fresh injectors and injection pump are big. Injectors and pump get real lazy around 80k and should be changed every 100k also if it has sat for a while its going to take some time to spit all the old fuel out. If you drive nice with a stockish fresh fuel system 16-18 around town shouldn't be hard to get. But keep in mind that's with stock tires too

i got bigger tires on mine and the fuels turned up a lil and i still get 17 mpg highway with cold air intake and banks 3' downpipe

ive got a 4inch lift with 38x15.50R20 and i get about 20 on highway and 14-15 on street as long as u don't get on it much.
