7.3 won't start?
I am working on making my truck street legal... But for now (till I get my permit) the only time I drive is to go up to get firewood. Today I tried starting it, (had the block heater plugged in for about 2 hours) I let the glowplugs heat up until the light went off and then an extra few minutes. It turned over same as it always did, it tried to start, it just didn't. I ended up killing the batteries after about 3-5 minutes of trying. I was never turning it over for more than 10 seconds at a time. IT ISN"T EVEN THAT COLD OUT! It was at least 40 degrees. What am I gonna need to make it work? It gets a LOT colder than this. New batteries? I already know it needs a new filter. Anything I can do to it to make it easier to start in the cold? It usually starts up fine.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I can jump it off of a gas truck right? The two batteries is confusing me... |
yes you can jump it off a gas truck just put it on one of your batteries, and i would make sure your filters arnt cloged. change the fuel filter and try and make sure your glow plugs are working. they might be tosted. could be a lot of things it sucks when it could be so many more things :argh:

if it is plugged in for 2 hours and the block is at 130F it will start with no glow plug assistance. Fire right up.
You might try cracking all the injector lines to see when cranking they are all wet. If they are and still wont start after you tighten them back up. it may be time to remove the injectio pump and get i rebuilt. Lots of other issues involved too that I skipped, but I did on purpous. If all the other issues ae tight then if what I recommendd dont work, you know what to do. Even ether wont start it then time for a pump. Javier |
Jumped it, and it started right up... New batteries are on the list now. Must not be spinning it fast enough in the cold.

Ha well there ya go easy fix :jump:
|
Good to see easy fixes!
|
Yea. Easy, but not cheap... I guess it could be worse though. I'm just happy there is nothing wrong with my engine :jump:
|
If that dont fix it try a new starter because mine was havin the same problem and i replaced the batteries and the starter the starter was really weak:td:
