Truck Goes Up in Flames

So i talked to my Uncle on the phone last night... He started his 2001 Ram 1500 with his remote starter to warm up in the morning, he went out 15 minutes later and his truck has on fire!! The entire interior burned on him. Anyone hear of that before?? Its a first for me

I'd bet money it was due to a poorly installed remote start system that pulled too much power through bad wiring for some reason and lit up.

That was my thoughts but it was wired in professionally a couple of years ago. Not sating they didnt make a mistake but I figured it woulda happened sooner.

Wild, never heard of or seen that and I have been installing mobile electronics for years. I bet they didn't use any fuses when connecting to power sources.:s:

He sais he was having some issues with heating... Which I know is very common but typically a vacuum problem. Something was making a clicking noise randomly from around the heater box... All the vents worked as well :humm::humm:

"was wired in professionally..."

A new variation of the old "professionally installed" concept. There was a guy in a death wobble thread last year who said his lift pucks were "professionally installed," so he could not understand why his front end was shot because of that.

As often as not that just means somebody got paid to do it and chances are they don't know much more about it than you do.

Its not too bad actually.... He has full coverage and is pretty good with upholstery/interiors so he will probably make out with some cash in his pocket :tu::tu:

I had a problem with my old 1995 2500 gasser, went to start it to go plow battery was stone dead, i smelled that "burnt wire smell",I did some looking found a wire that gives the brake lite ground durring start mode had melted against a hot wire. Factory wiring. No remote starter either.Luckily just seperated the wires, jumpedstarted the truck & never gave trouble ever again. Why it happened I'll never know,Truck is gone.have 01 cummins now.
