Found the Reason (Front End Shaking)

Had a friend work the steering wheel back and forth, steering box is wore. Or rather where the pit man arm bolts up, the bearing is shot. Can here it clunk pretty good, making it sound like a bad tie rod. At least everything else was tight, but was hoping the track bar was loose, been easier to change. :ouch:

how was it shaking and when was it shaking? Mine is shaking too but only when I hit out of lvl pavement such as in construction zones

I have seen some steering boxes with almost a half a turn of play!! They are a fairly cheap easy fix tho, no worries :c:

My front end shakes at around 60 and when I turn I hear a clunking sound. I don't have and play in the wheel. I'll have to check out the pitman arm and steering box

Could br bad tie rods or an alignment too. Have you checked them?? :humm:

Speed specific vibrations are often a tire balance problem. :c:

X2.... When was the last time you got new tires?

You should put the DSS on with a new box to help it last longer.

My tires are new maybe 5k on them. I just bought the truck end of January. I'm taking it up have them rebalanced. My biggest concern is the thumping feeling I get in the pedals and steering wheel while turning.

Bad CV joint?

wildbill 04-10-2012 09:20 PM

Not CV's on an SFA.

IDK, I stuck a steering box stabilizer on it, and greased the tie rods really good, so far no death wobble. :humm:

Bad ball joint, bad control arm bushing maybe?

IDK but I'm going to replace just about everything on the front end. From tie rods to ball joints. Steering stabilizer and sway links. If I still got the sound then I'll go to control arms.

Tiremann I have a question for you..
So I felt this horrible shake, braking , corners etc... i honestly thought it was the brakes on the front, rotors warped or something.. Ended up looking at the front drivers side tire it had wires coming out of the side etc.. so that tire was shot, replaced it with a new one., took the spare out from under the truck, ( it was Brand new) , put that on the pass side drivers.
Took the tire from the front pass and put in on rear pass. and left the one that was ok on the drivers rear........

Still get a bad vibration from the back tires it feels like now, it seems to be coming from the rear, so im thinking it must be in that tire.. does a tire sep from the inside and not show on the out side. these tirese had 80.000 k i think there original from the dealer.

I need a good tire/rim
for this truck. whats the best way to go... 20 inch for the roads we drive are pretty useless, as there is a pot hole and road heaves every where. It sucks when you drive over the pot holes and worry about my tires. A recomendation would be nice, ive heard the 18" Duratrecs are the way to go....your thoughts?

\Original tires on this 07 Dodge Ram 5.7 l Hemi are...275/60/20.GY Wranglers.
I dont think i want to buy two more of this tire if they just seperate at 80k.:humm:
