Help Valuing a Chevy 3500 w/5.9l Cummins
 

I need help trying to determine the value of a truck I'm interested in. 1989 Chev C3500 1 Ton Crew Cab Dually 4X2. 5.9L Cummins Intercooled-Diesel Conversion. Turbo 400 Auto Trans with Gear Vendor OD unit behind it. Allison torque converter. Dual batteries, Line-X in bed. AC, AM-FM-Cassette with cassette tapes. Excellent tires, Tow Package, Fifth wheel hitch in bed, three fuel tanks for the long haul, new fuel pump installed by Diesel Performance last week. This truck has been very highly maintained and is in great mechanical condition. It has no mechanical issues and has NO RUST. It's been repainted and looks to be very clean and ran out really nice. The owner started out at about 8700.00 then got the impression I thought it was overprice did some looking and dropped it to $7200. I don't even know where to look to find a value. Interior is clean my wife isn't overly big on it as it looks like an old man's truck but we just need it to pull our fifth wheel and have our kids go along and beats 40k. So....Can anyone tell me if it's out of line? I didn't think it was but just going on my gut feeling. Thanks

The engine alone is worth that asking price, and as long as it's been cared for (and you can get maintenance logs) I'd give him $7000 for it and squeal like a kid in a candy store once he was out of ear shot.

I want to squeal but my wife doesn't care for that body style her style is being a kept woman and buying a new truck. GRRRRR.... Co-worker keeps telling me it's cheaper to keep her I'm starting to think he's full of @#%@#%. ;) I sold my '95 today so now thinking this would be a really good way to keep the cost of ownership down and going with it. I wonder how pissed she would be if I just did it.

Just get Momma her own truck. That's what I did.

Her truck is the black '06 on the left ..... I traded in her '03 for my '08 cuz we needed a manual tranny for pulling the toyhauler she talked me into, so I took a page from her playbook and got me the '08.

Sounds over priced to me but it doesnt matter what any of us think, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what if you gave him $7,000, would it bother you? Is it what you want, if it is exactly what you want then it is worth its weight in gold to you, personally I wouldnt give $3000 for it, I find trucks like this for less than $1500. My last truck was a 93 f250 7.3 2wd ex cab with 270k for $1200, drove it for over 4 years with nothing more than filters and tires invested into it the whole time.

when things are put in places where they where not originally designed, they tend to be a problem child. I would go over that truck with a fine tooth comb.

well at least someone had their head in the right place by putting a cummins in a chevy now only if we could gget the ford owners to do that, all problems would just disapear btw my 91 cummins had to tow my dads 06 7.3l lifter ford home because his fuel sending unit went out should have got a picture:argh::dang: but it was funny as hell:rocking::jump:

you comparing ford prices a cummins cost more for the fact its the best and it tried and proven something ford nor chevy can manage to do the cummins engine in that truck if worth more than the body its in and any ford there is plain and simple

btw they make a kit to put the cummins in the fords and the chevys

Anyone who says this is overpriced is misinformed, a conversion cost quite a bit to do. I have over 200 hours in the conversion I did/ 97 6bt in a 92 chevy crewcab dually. If it looks like a quality install it is worth around 9K if you ask me. If this truck passes state inspection/if required/ jump on it. I am a Ford guy but I do like the Cummins and I do like the look of that year Chevy, that is why I did mine and you can still get some aftermarket parts to dress it up to personalise it. The Chevys probably have the best ride and with a cummins in there you know that you have the power, plus you have a 6 speed transmission with that gear vendors unit in there, price one of those once$$$. I don't recall the year of the motor this truck has but if it is a P-pumped motor extra Hp is easy to get. I like the mechanical engines better than the computer controlled because the Get me home factor, as long as the fuel pump is working it will get you home.... Good luck and I wouldn't be afraid to pay that . How long has it been used after the conversion? if a while then it should be proven as reliable.. Bob

anyway that truck looks like it was someones baby. probably excellently maintained. A lot of money invested and never beaten. like it was mentioned before. it's tough to value. it's really what its worth to you. he's probably got that much in it
