Smooth ride ?
Does everyone else's trucks ride good and smooth? Mine always seems to have a bounce. I've had the tires rotated and balanced lot of times and still my truck has the worst ride out of any truck I've been in. Any suggestions?

Firestone Ride-Rites.
I love them on my '08 3500 .... it actually rides better than my wife's '06 2500. Kris |
Ok I'll have to remember that when rime comes for tires. I hate these Goodyear wranglers I got when I got my new wheels. The ride sucks!
Ummm, they're actually air bags.
They replaced the overload springs and the truck doesn't have the "bounce your kidneys out of your backside" feeling anymore. |
Oh. Lol. I was way off. Ok I'll check into that.
So you know what you're looking at .......
(Don't worry, I'm a visual learner too) https://www.dieselbombers.com/member...e-air-bags.jpg |
Gotcha. Looks nice. Easy to install? Fairly cheap?
Installs in an afternoon .... jack up the rear, remove the overloads, follow their install instructions, viola. It helps if you have someone to help, but that's mainly to cut down on time and get to the beer and pizza faster.
Price was great until I started upgrading ..... but that's just because I wasn't happy with the gauge failures and overall design. You might be better off with doing your install with their replacement parts instead of the kit. The included air tank was about the size of a 64 ounce thermal mug (think Seven Eleven or Circle K style thermal mugs) and the compressor was maybe a 1/4 duty (use for 15 minutes, wait for 45 min cool down). For me to air up from 20 psi to 70 psi, I would have to do one side first and then wait for the compressor to play catch up so I could finish filling it. Then I would start the other side, play catch up again, and finish filling. Needless to say, having the compressor kick on 3 or 4 times to fill my bags was a PITA. With the setup I have running now it doesn't even happen, but I'm also running 175psi versus 110psi, and 5 gallons of air versus maybe a gallon. With AirLift's Wireless AIR remote controlled setup, all I do is switch between "Preset 1" and "Preset 2", which are defaulted to 25 and 75 psi, respectively. They either air up or air down as needed, and I love it. Kris |
Holy cow. Sounds nice and cool but outta my range. But atleast now I know I know what to look for.
That's why I was saying go with the replacement parts instead of the kit. Get your bags and mounting hardware from Firestone, the controller from AirLift, and a better tank and compressor from elsewhere.
I'm running train horns so I had more to do than you will, which was deleting everything but the bags and a few feet of red lines. The nice part is now I can air up tires, winterize my sprinkler system and RV by blowing them out with air, and terrorize the morons that cut me off when I'm towing something. -Kris |
When we did ours on our trucks we left the overloads on and it took about 2 hrs at the firestation:tu: fairly easy and definatly made a difference in the ride. We went with airlift bags and compressor and love em
A good set of aftermarket shocks will help a bunch. I'm going to get a compressor system with bags myself someday.
I got adjustable rancho ones but still hate the bounce. Guess need to check out the bags.
Ranchos are junk. Bilsteins is where its at. Also I didnt learn from this mistake one time it took 3 times. Dont fall for the cheaper shocks go with the blue and yellow. You wont regret it. Simple math real quick
For just Fronts 45 each side roughly 90 bucks if you get free shipping. Hate the ride ditch the ranchos and pay 180 for the bilsteins love the ride and instead of just a 180 now your out 270. Trust me Bilsteins. |
Aight thanks. I'll check into that.
X2 on the Bilsteins. Rancho shocks are very harsh due to their valving or the lack thereof. I put all 4 Bilsteins on my 2010 for $300 and the ride is awesome. Like Killstroker said, you won't regret it.
Well bout the only way I learn is the wrong way first so I'll give the blisters a shot. Guess the adjustable thingy knob suckered me in. Must be good y'all like em.
if you run 50psi in front and 45psi in the rear it will make a big differenece in the ride. But bring psi back up when towing.:tu:

is it 4x4?
Yeah mine is 4x4. If u lower the tire pressure that much, don't the tires start cupping bad and a spongy steering?

They can if they're not "E" rated, or if the pressure gets too low for "E' tires. And you'll REALLY feel it if you've got paved roads with major semi-truck traffic that have those worn in ruts in the asphalt. You'll feel like you're all over the road even if you're not. -Kris |
Yeah mine are e rated. But I got 20's and my ride just sucks. I like my wheels, but I'd switch back if I still had the stockers.
i'd check you're front drive shaft also. just a warning if it starts vibrating and you can't seem to find the problem check that or your transfer case will break in half on you. it happened to me going down the interstate.
Not to mention that Cardian joint is not cheap.
My 02 rides way better than my 05 ever did. Both were stock but the 05 was 4wd. 02 has a set of Monroe Gas-matics that may help.
20 inch wheels will ride rougher even with a perfect balance and lower pressure, you give up alot of sidewall absorbtion. i just replaced my 275/55 20s with 305/55 20s (same brand but went from a highway terrain to AT) they added an inch of sidewall and i can tell a big difference even at the same pressure.
