New guy with a question...

'04 Ram with the Cummins. For Washington State's emissions testing they make you do the 'snap' test, where you put the throttle pedal to the floor and leave it there for some time (10 seconds? if I remember correctly). Redline on tach is 3200 - again if I remember correctly, the engine goes to 4000+ and stayed there - no load - then when I lifted off the throttle, the revs stayed up there for another 5 - 10 seconds before coming back down to idle. Monkey's working at the emissions station said this is normal and nothing will be hurt.

Opinions???

Gotta take it thru emissions again next month and dont want to do anything stupid (again)

Thanks!

I'm in California, and it sounds familiar. I use a shop for occasional work on my rig who are certified. . . that is where I took mine for certification. If they aren't a diesel shop I would not let them touch it, if it was my truck.

If Washington has independent testers you may be out of luck. But if at all possible, take it to a diesel shop for the test. yea, I think it is bad for the motor.

It's a plutocrat's world . . . :argh:

So your truck stuck at that RPM from nothing they had done? Or they made it stay there for that time? There was one time (only once) that I floored my 5.9, let off, and the RPMs stuck at redline! hit the breaks and it dropped. freaked me out for a second... Never happened again though. and it was NOT my floor mat

I hate that emissions testing. If any place I live ever goes to it, I'll swear off diesels for DD's, and just build for competition.

I live in washington state and i've never had to hold the throttle for 10 sec's on the snap test. It's more like 2 or 3 sec's. And if your throttle is sticking, i'd get that looked at. Maybe the throttle sensor. What part of washington are you from?
