2nd gen dash cracks, and 24 valve electrical ground issues
Death wobble on all models esp. 3rd gens, mostly with leveling kits

What about the 2002 and later vehicles Guys and Gals ?

Wyatt Earp 11-24-2007 09:51 AM

Go back a bit the KDP can run up to 2000. Any 2nd gen up to 2002 has fueling problems (read LP and VP44)
2001, 2002 = power steering pump seal failures, ABS brake sensor issues, E-Brake problems due to weight of truck, higher quality interior seats (finally) and just brakes in general. Otherwise great years.

The third gens also have fuelling (LP) issues as well.

Come to think of it all Dodge Cummins ISB and ISBE trucks have that problem from stock. A gauge and a real lift pump goes a very long way in fixing that.

TRACK BAR!!!! :argh:

RUST!!!!!!! :argh: :baby:

Pretty much bring a jack and a couple big prypars and a pair of big water pump pliers to check the front end. Tie rods are common. Ball joints, Hub asslys. Universal Joints from Dodges uncapability to build a manual locking hub :argh: (god I miss the kingpin axles)

Fuel lines, brake lines, etc go for all years.

91.5-93 Automatics: Throttle position sensors are most common cause for truck to slip in and out of overdrive. $200 for the real fix, $20 for a jury-rigged potentiometer that lets you adjust shift points on the fly.

89-93 All: Rust on the very front center of the roof is inside-out rust and impossible to fix without removing the roof. Very common problem.

89-93 All: Front fender cowls crack directly in front of the door; can let water in to the inside of the door during heavy rain. Almost universal problem; requires custom welding work to fix properly.

89-93 All: Parking Brake and Anti-Lock lights are stuck on; can be caused by a gamut of issues. Bad anti-lock sender, bad electrical connection, leaking brake system, bad vacuum booster, bad computer, et cetera. Prices range from $0 to $400.

89-93 All: Dodge used faulty primer on all the trucks; the permanent fix requires metal-up repainting, altough a primer-up repainting probably will last for years. If the paint isn't peeling, it's probably been repainted.

Check out my post here.
