Cummins 4BT
I'd like to get something like a Dakota and put a 4BT in it. Where are they found, and at what price? I don't know much about them, so if you could, give me some info on them. Thanks.

some on craigslist. junkyards. i believe they put them in some van's and whatnot. they're a bit rare as opposed to the 12v which is quite common. the price i could not tell you. all depends on where you are and how many are available and what they're going for. other than that its basically a 12v. pretty simple engine. low horsepower. rated at flywheel its in the hundreds so its not gonna fly. i'd say probably a little tougher to find aftermarket parts for them too. so while it may be a cool thing you may not enjoy it that much as a daily driver but i've never driven a truck with one in it. hopefully one of the members with a 4bt will chime in and give you some more info. good luck

I just read that they can get up to 30mpg in a smaller truck. Not gonna loose much power from coming from a 6.5L Detroit.

they're in case skid steers. also in things like the doritos delivery trucks. i'd get try and get one from a highway vehicle as opposed to a piece of equipment. skid steers run wide open almost 100% of the time.
i hear people putting them in old f-100s all the time. i chuckle when i see that because it really makes me want one in my old ford. |
