Check those FASS electrical connections!
Well, my FASS quit working in Washington. This is the second time I have had the FASS quit working during owning it. It had been working fine until today (as far as I remember hearing over the past couple days). The only good thing is this is a newer version that has a bypass in the pump which allows the truck to continue running (CP3 really doesn't need a lift pump).
First time was corroded terminals on the relay...pushing a new relay in and greasing those terminals solved that issue. This time, I assumed maybe the relay failed...replaced the relay, no change. So I went further upstream, to the fuse. Found the fuse completely melted in the holder (but the holder wasn't damaged)...the culprit was corroded terminals that caused a batch of heat. Replaced the fuse and back in business at 20psi. The interesting part was the fuse holder appeared to be a weather-tight version... Make sure you check both these trouble spots if you live anywhere you drive in a corrosive environment (salt water or winter salt)...don't get me wrong, I have over 180k on my FASS of cross-country driving, and it has performed well short these two hiccups. |
