Guys - same displacement, fewer pistons. That means each piston is incrementally larger, as well as the connecting rod etc. Ok let's figure 360hp - 45hp/cylinder in the V8 - 60hp/cyl in the I6.

But I can see where this is heading so I'm just going to leave it at that...

Well in the case of the 7.3, we're talking about 20% LESS displacement and about double the sized rod.

You do the math, I'm done too. :c:

440727... Back to your original question. I personally like the 02 Cummins. Get the glitches that everyone knows about taken care of and drive it forever.. Got three of them amongst buddies of mine and my brother killed one.... 20'' Rims and CEPEK FC-II's On our winter ice roads = Approach jump..... Just about brings tears to his eyes every time we drag out the pics of that one.. :ouch: The three left will die in their yards they all love them. I ran A 03 for 240,000 Miles then dropped both intake valves on the piston for A smashing good time.. I had no problem with that truck either, Just had A shizznit happens with it. As far as how the motors stack up.. Every Cummins that I have ever driven is the same starts on it's knees but when you get the legs under it they are strong, strong in the higher RPM's The power strokes. I have only ever run three of them and didn't like any of them. Seems they just get close to having A motor sorted out and running and they throw it away for A new set of problems. And they all seem to have alot of turbo lag... But smooth power across the board when pulling.. The Duramax.. only dealt with three of them and all post 04. Good power in the bottom and mid range.. But the injectors seem to be A consistent fail..... At least in the one I have been involved with.. The trucks themselves.... The Dodge is the proverbial lumber wagon. you want tough but rough.. Then they are that.. The Fords are kinda the middle ground to me good all round but great nowhere.. Except for the seats.. Have thought many times bout findin A set of King Ranch seats and puttin in my Dodge.. And the Chevy's are the Cadillac for ride hands down.. But the weakest as far as abusing them in the rougher stuff. My three cents... :c: And good luck in your hunt..

Rhino.

i agree with you on this one like im pretty sure i said before my dodge is tough and has taken a lot of abuse but it can ride rough chevys ride nice on the pavement but thats about it get off road then ull find out. fords are really the middle ground between the 2. o i should say though my 99 rides rougher because i got a leveling kit and the heavy as hell springs in the back get it loaded and it rides nice. my dad has an 03 and its like night and day between the 2 trucks ride wise. but i think the cummins is far superior engine due to its simplicity. then i would say the d-max and the power stroke. just my .02 :c:

i'm i die hard ford fan. when my 6.0 dies, and if there is anything left of the rest of the truck, i plan on putting a cummins in it for the tq and the ease and avilibility of finding aftermarket parts. i've rode in and driven all 3. i like the drive terrian of the ford, the ride and comfort of the chevy, and the power of the dodge. in the end i'll drive a ford because thats what i like.
