Why gauges

I am no newbie when it comes to wrenching on vehicles but I am a nebie when it comes to diesels.

I cant believe all the stuff that is available for diesels these days it is taking the world by suprise and what a money making machine the diesel motor is.

anyway.
All I see is people with this programmer and stacked with this, with this exhaust and this turbo bla bla bla.
then there are gauges. everyone says you're playing with fire if you dont have them and so on.

My question is why. I know obviously why but the "why " I want to know is

say I put a module in and then a tuner with a BHAF(or other intake setup), stock tranny and stock turbo (which is what 90% of the diesel community does). I have the pyro gauge, tranny temp, boost and maybe a rail pressure gauge.
say I do daily driving and very rarely gun it but have everything set at the highest level. Most likely i wont see anything that would constitute the gauges. But if I like to leave the little ricers in "the cloud" and my EGTs go to high.... then what? whats the purpose of having all of the tuners stacked with this and what ever? You have put stuff that has reached the limit of the stock components of the motor. I mean obivously you'll have to slow down in order to lower the EGTs or what not.
I can see it coming to play when towing as well. If these gauges were so important and needed when even towing stock why dont they come with it from the factory?

Just a newb type question I guess. I have a diablo predator tuner and I like it alot. I have put it on extreme twice just to try it out. But I leave it at performance. I dont have any gauges and because I do street driving and dont race or tow I think I will be fine.

When do tow or have a heavy load in the bed I take the tune right out and do it stock.

amybe Im not the only one that looks like at it like this

just to add. Is a good rule of thumb is anything over 100 hp should require gauges?

Personally I think guages should be the first mod anybody makes to any truck and it's insane that they don't come stock with them. But if they did I wouldn't trust the stock guages anyway. They come with a oil pressure guage and it is useless. If you have ever hooked a real guage up to your fuel pressure line and compared it to the stock guage, it's not even in the ballpark.

Although the primary need for guages is to keep you from pushing the truck over the limit's and knowing where those limit's are, they are also an invaluable tool for diagnosing problems and seeing malfunctions before they leave you stranded and lead to bigger issues.

what truck comes stock with a fuel pressure gauge? I know the tranny temp gauges ain't that great
