07 3500 reliability help

One of my daughters picked up a 07, 3500, quad cab, manual, dually, with 4x4 about 25 days ago. The owner used it for towing a camper, boat, and when they traveled. It had 35k on it but the husband died and it sat in the car port for 10 months with out being touched.

She’s looking to use it for a little mudding, a little back road gravel fun, hauling when needed, but mostly a good travel truck. So far it’s had all the fluids / filters, new farm bed, 90 gallon bed tank, ripped out stock tanks, Air Dog 150, new batteries, load leveling bags, hoses and belt, and some other odds and ends.

In 2 weeks her and our mechanic are going to come in on a Saturday to try to nock more off the need to do list. EGR delete, front pads, finish installing a full set of gages, new O2 plugs, all fluids / filter change, a few odds and ends.

Were looking for suggestions…
What injectors?
Fuel rail upgrade?
What issues dose the model have that we have over looked?
:tttt:

my buddy has a 07 6.7l 3500 dually with the 6 speed manual to and it is a work horse. we did the egr and egr cooler deletes, smarty chip, dpf delete, and a s&b intake, and gauges. now the clutch is gone so thats next on the list. as for injectors i wouldn't put any in till the stock ones go bad. trust me when you do all the deletes it is a night and day differents. his truck tows like crazy.

Thank you Itr450

I just asked her about what egr kit and it has the egr and egr cooler delete.
It came with an aftermarket intake but not sure who made it; will think about S&B.
Good to know about the injectors.

I don’t know anything about dpf delete. When I looked it up some have a new pipe and some are electronic. I don’t know what the dpf is or dose. I’m thinking she needs the electronic delete since we cut the exhaust behind the cab and getting custom bent pipes put on next week. Dose the dpf effect the co2 senders?

yes you will need a smarty or a xrt chip to be able to run code free with the dpf remove. the dpf attacks like a cat and traps all soot that comes out of the ehaust. if i was her i would put a new turbo back system on it because the 6.7l have to cat and dpf which really chock them off. i would put a 3600 south bends clutch in it to because the stock clutches are junk in these trucks. if it has a intake on it just leave it. sounds like all she has to do is buy a smarty chip and a turbo back exhaust and a clutch and she will be good to go. don't she to many girls driven a dually around. i hope i help you out feel free to ask and other ? but i have to go to work now.

Ok I under stand now and I’ll let her know.
I don’t know if our mechanic will put in a new clutch till the first of the year unless she can talk him into working another Saturday to do it.
It’s looking like she’s going to get the smarty.

Thanks

thanks

Itr450.
You did good on your recommendations. It only made it about 5 miles from the exhaust shop before it died. We loaded it up and took it back to our shop. We found that the owner had tinkered with the timing and had used a programmer on it. The smarty on top of that didn’t work well. It took a few hours of playing and a few phone calls to get it running like a champ.

I can defiantly see where the stock clutch would not hold up long with towing after the mods. Thanks for your help.
