lugging the engine
so i found out one day if i put my truck into 6th gear at about 10-15 mph and i lug the engine bad i can smoke out roads. However before i do it much more i want to know if uts hard on my truck to do that and if i will hurt anything by dropping the RPMs that low
|
I dont like doing it, that is a massive strain on the engine.

me and my uncle will not drop gear in some spots unless the rpms get below a certain spot. my uncle drives his like he did his coal truck.
|
ok so it IS hard on stuff......what could go wrong if something did go wrong, like what could break
|
Just think about how hard it is putting all that strain on the engine for no reason. Listen to how hard the timing tries to advance.
Andy |
im not gonna do it again to listen to it................but like what would go bad if i kept doing it
|
More strain on the Vp and the valvetrain is the first things that pop into my head. The added timing causes more preasure in the cylinders.
Andy |
well let's say it's a 12valve..... and i lug mine locked in drive or overdrive..... what could be hurt other than washing my cyl walls down with fuel?
|
Im not sure, I know that when I lug mine down real hard it rattles like a small block with the timing advanced to far.
Andy |
i've never heard mine rattle. i have stock timing on mine and have put it on a 65% load on the dyno and heard nothing..... the dyno opperator wouldn't go higher as he thought i was going to break something..... my truck or his dyno....
